Oliver H Linscott was born in 1817 in Maine (the son of David Linscott b.1779), and enlisted Mar 1865 into the 1st Battalion, Maine Infantry, which was formed at Augusta Maine in 1865 from the 21st, 24th, 25th, and 26th unassigned companies of infantry. This amalgomated unit was then actually designated ''1st Battalion, Maine Infantry''. He died ''of chills'' July 15, 1865 at Cheraw, SC while the 1st Battalion was assigned to Dwight's Division, Dept of the South. His burial is recorded at Florence National Cemetery, Section A, site (grave) 2.
