Friedrick Christmann - Sergeant   
Born in Lahr, Baden, Germany in 1820. Emigrated to America in 1853 from La Havre France aboard the ship ''William Tell.'' Entered America through Castle Gardens. Lived in Kleine Deutschland or Little Germany in lower Manhattan what is today little Italy and Chinatown. Mustered in to the Regiment April 1861 and was discharged April 1864 after his 3 year enlistment expired. Wounded at Gettysburg while unloading ammunition caissons. Sent to an island just south of Hilton Head, SC to recouperate. Later sent to Taugus, Maine to recouperate at a soldier''s hospital which is now a VA medical center. Returned to being a tailor in Manhattan. Died in 1907 and is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Queens, New York.

My great-grandfather enlisted with the 41st for three years as a sixteen year old 24 December 1861, discharged in Washington D.C. 28 December 1864. I am honored to own his original discharge papers, signed by his C.O. at the time, 1st LT. Oscar Fleishmann, and on the rear of which are listed the engagements in which he and the 41st participated.

Frederick Engelbrecht - Sergeant   
Enlisted June 9, 1861 in Co. K, 41st Regiment, NYS Volunteers Infantry. Promoted to Full Sargeant on December 9, 1961. Discharged June 27, 1864. Re-enlisted March 24, 1865 in Co. B '6' Rgt. S Vet-Vols; discharged March 23, 1866 Distinguished Service.

Wounded at Battle of Gettysburg; arrived at Carver Hospital in Washington DC on July 29, 1863 where he remained for 2 months. Was then sent to convalescent camp in Alexandria, VA for 2 weeks, after which he rejoined his regiment in Folly Island, South Carolina. Wounds caused permanent deafness and brain fever, which eventually led to Frederich's death in 1889. Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn NY
