125th Pennsylvania Infantry
Company Unknown | |
William Simmers - Private |
William Simmers was born in 1840 in Coal Rain Forge, Pennsylvania, USA. He died on 09 Apr 1919 in Flinton, Cambria, Pennsylvania, USA and is buried in Interned Glasgow Cemetery. He is the brother of George III Simmers who served in the 55th Pennsylvania Infantry Division, Company A, Union and was killed during the war. They were the sons of George Simmers Jr (1979-1851) and Mary Polly Irons (1802-1878) of Pennsylvania, USA.
Personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5 feet 5 inches; complexion Fair; color of eyes, Brown; color of hair Dark; that his occupation was Laborer; that he was born Coal Rain Forge, 1840.
William Simmers answers on pension papers to question number one that he was in the 120th Regiment. According to the site I have cited, the 120th Regiment failed to organized. I have also found that on another site. There is no explanation as to why it failed to organize though. So, I guess William Simmers was orginally with the 120th Regiment but was transferred to the 125th. The 125th Regiment is also stated in the pension papers.
