John Edwin Rowzee - Sergeant
|
Edwin Rowzee is my first cousin 3 generations removed. Both he and his brother, George, served with Mosby's Rangers. Edwin was captured April 28, 1864 at Leesburg. He was sent to Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC May 03, 1864. On September 20, 1864 he was transferred to Fort Warren Prison, Boston and released June 12, 1865. He died March 30, 1874 at approx. age 36 at Dranesville, VA. I often wonder if his death from pneumonia at such an early age was a result of a no doubt hard winter spent in a federal prison on an island in Boston harbor.
