Abbot L. Armstrong Dead

Another of Highlands aged citizens and Confederate veterans passed away Sunday night in the person of Abbot L. Armstrong, death claiming him at the home of his son, Lurty Armstrong near McDowell, Deceased was a son of the late Allen Armstrong, was 76 years of age, and, as stated above was a veteran of the Civil war. Opposite his name in the roster of Highland soldiers we find the following entry, which is all that the biographer has to guide him in giving the war record of these aged veterans as they pass away, one by one (52-5)-H 19 Cav. Captured Melvern. Mr. Armstrong had been in declining health for some time, visiting an eastern hospital recently in hope of obtaining relief. His malady, however, proved to be a fatal one, and taking his bed on his return he never got up again. Deceased was a kind and hospitable gentleman and will be missed in his community. He is survived by several of his children, some of whom reside in the West."
