Henry Alwes - Private
Henry was born in Germany. Married to Elizabeth Mankopf. Lived in Muskingum County, Ohio. Had four children. Barbara, Eliabeth, John, and Ida. He was killed being transported to the front when the train he was in wrecked. He is buried in Menphis TN at the Veterans Cemetary. There is no marker on the grave. Most union soldiers who were buried at the Veterans Cemetary were lated moved to the National Cemetary in Memphis, but I have found no record to indicate that Henry was moved. He does have a marker in the West Union Cemetery in Athens, OH where his wife is burried.

Henry is a 3rd great-grandfather of mine.
