Enlisted on 9/25/1861 for 3 years at Mt. Sterling, AL in Choctaw County. On the May/June 1863 roll call, he was reported as AWOL around Shelbyville, TN, but in reality, he had been captured. He was captured on 6/27/1863 at Shelbyville, TN. On 6/30/1863 he was sent to Nashville, TN, then on 7/3/1863 he was sent to a Military Prison in Louisville, KY, then on 7/6/1863 he was sent to Camp Chase, OH, then on 7/14/1863 he was sent to Ft. Delaware, DE, and stayed there until he was sent to Point Lookout, MD on 10/22/1863. He was finally paroled at Point Lookout on 2/18/1865 and exchanged at Camp Lee, VA near Richmond, VA on 2/28/1865. James married Lucinda Ezell Taylor around 1868 and had 7 children. James and Lucinda are both buried in Jachin, AL at Christopher Chapel Methodist Church cemetery.

Enlisted at Mt. Sterling, AL on 8/1/1863 for 3 years or duration of the war. On his Nov/Dec of 1863 Roll Call, it states he was 'Absent with train in GA by accident war'. Doesn't make much sense to me. His next 3 and last service pages state that he was deceased and the QM received $3.30 of his personal affects. Doesn't state anything as to how or what caused his death. I have researched train accidents in GA in 1863 and 1864, but haven't had any luck finding anything.

Elijah was born 22 Feb 1824 in Pine Hill, Wilcox Co. Ala. He was about 39 years old when he enlisted in aforesaid county on 1 Aug 1863. He had 5 other Autrey family members in this Regiment and same Company some of which had served in Robin's Independent Co. of Vols. 1 Dec 1863 he is assigned to the regimental commissary. He has 3 cards in his archival file. He served honorably until the end. Was paroled at Selma, Ala in June 1865. He married Winifred Dumas. and they are buried at Enon Cem. at Pine Hill, Wilcox Co. Ala.

Horace was born in 1838 probably in Prairie Bluff, Wilcox co. Ala. In 1860 he is listed in that county as 21 years old. He enlisted 22 Oct 1861 in Capt. Robins Detached Company of Ala. Mounted Vol's. Enlisted by Major Julius Hessee. HIs horse is valued at $200. He served for 7 months and was medically discharged on 21 May 1862. He had developed a large abscess on his hip which caused him debilitating pain in his left leg. His date of death is unknow, his last location is shown on the 1870 census at, Shiloh, Marengo Co Ala. He was my 3rd cousin 4 x removed.

Robert is my great-great uncle. His tombstone states his service with Company A, 4th Alabama but I have not found any evidence supporting this. I have found evidence that he served with the Shorter Guards (90 Day Volunteers) and Company D, 3rd Alabama Cavalry. His brother Charles was commander of Company I, 38th Alabama Infantry. Robert is buried in Camden Cemetery, Camden, Wilcox County, Alabama.

Henry was born 11 Mar 1827 in Butler Co. Ala. He has 24 cards and documents in his archival file. He enlisted as a Private on 25 Apr 1861 in Capt. Jenkins Co Mounted Rifles at Wilcox. His horse is valued at $125 and equipment at $25. On 30 Oct 1861 his horse died. 9 Nov 1861 with a new horse he is elected to 4th Corporal. On 12 May 1862 he is elected to the rank of 2nd Lieut. He served in the Kentucky, Atlanta and Carolina Campaigns. His unit surrendered at Greensboro, NC and paroled 8 June 1865. He is described as being 5 foot 10 inches tall, 35 years old with dark complexion, dark hair, and black eyes. He died 21 Oct 1875 at Carthage, Panola Co. Texas.

Murphy's Alabama Independent Mounted Volunteers (Perry County) Later became the 'Curry Dragoons' aka Co.F Benjamin F Austin joined Capt. Murphy's Company, Alabama Mounted Volunteers later called 3rd Alabama Cavalry, Company F in Perry County, Alabama on 18 Nov 1861 at the age of 24. He was enlisted by Capt. Murphy as a private. Benjamin took his horse to war with him. His horse was valued at $275 and horse equipment at $20. Even though he first enlist for a period of 12 months he stayed for the whole war. Since he was listed on the on the following Muster Rolls: 18 Nov to Dec 31 1861 30 Apr to 30 Jun 1863 31 Oct to 31 Dec 1863 31 Oct 1864 Notes from Benjamin's Compiled Military Service Records state that his name appears as a signature to a Parole of Prisoners of War, sworn and subscribed to May 16, 1865, at Marion, Alabama.

Samuel Swingley Harvey was mustered into the 3rd Regiment Alabama Calvary, Co. F, as a Private in Montgomery, Alabama. Private Samuel Harvey was wounded in the foot at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 2nd, 1863. He contracted cholera and was admitted to the General Hospital in Danville, Virginia on July 14th, 1864, but was released same day. Sometime between the hospital visit and the subsequent capture in Aug 1864, Private Samuel Harvey was promoted to 1st Lt. He was captured in Aug 17th, 1864 by General Sheridan in Newtown, Virginia and sent to Washington D.C. on Aug 20th, 1864. Samuel would then be transferred to Fort Delaware, Aug 29th, 1864. At the time of his release, June 17, 1865, he is described as 6'1', sallow complexion, dark hair and blue eyes. He was released as 1st Lt.

William Hollingsworth was my gggrandfather. William enlisted July 1862 in Capt. Forney's company at Jacksonville, AL. He continued his service until assigned as Gen. Wither's body guard and was transferred. He re-enlisted in Murfreesboro in Wheelers command under Col. Higgins. He was involved in battles at Murfreesboro,Tullahoma, Shelbyville, Chickamauga, and Reseca.POW captured at Resaca, Ga. taken to camp Morton until the war was over. He died in 1922 at the age of 84.

William was my great grandfather. After the Civil War, he changed his name to Clarence William Oliver.

Abraham was about 18 years old when he enlisted at Lebanon, Alabama for 3 years in Co K 3rd Regt. Alabama Cavalry [Howard's]. The value of his horse is $200. His Regimental History and Pension file provide extensive data on his duties. He was engaged until the end of the war in most of the large battles in the deep south including the Atlanta Campaign. His pension was approved and when he died he received $30 from the state for burial expenses. He was born in Anderson Co. SC on 3 July 1844 and died in Anderson Co Ala. 18 July 1918. He was the husband of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.
