James was born in Georgia in 1833. He enlisted in Capt Thompson's Company of Cavalry Ala. Vol's. at Montgomery, Ala. on 20 Apr 1862. He was in Co B that served as the units Artillery Battery. This Co. was attached as Co B 51st Alabama, Partisan Rangers. They were paroled 1 June 1865. He lived until 7 May 1897. and died in Troy, Pike Co. Ala.

Stephen Dudley born in Alabama in 1839, brought his own horse and joined the unit at its inception. He stated he live a few miles for the muster. Stephen participated in the Grest Sequachie Valley Raid in the Stone's River campaign. His horse was shot out from under him just as they were crossing the river after the raid. He was taken prisoner and sent to the notorious Camp Morton pow prison at Indianapolis. He was detailed to look after the camps horses as he was considered skilled in their care. He was imprisoned for three years until the war's end. Later he worked as a section foreman on the L&N railroad. He moved to Georgia in the 1880's. He passed away in 1918,well remembered by his descendants. My gr gr grandfather.

'appears on a list of prisoners paroled at Fayetteville,Tn.7 Aug,1863.Age 18,blue eyes,dark hair,light complexion,5'8' born in Talladega,Ala.Brothers,John and Daniel served in Bowie's Ala Cav. 51st Regiment, Alabama Partisan Rangers 51st Regiment Partisan Rangers was organized at Oxford, Alabama, in August, 1862. Its members were from the counties of Calhoun, Pike, Talladega, Dallas, Saint Clair, Tuscaloosa, Perry, Mobile, and Montgomery. It was assigned to Wheeler's command and served principally in the brigades of W.W. Allen and J. Hagan. The unit took an active part in the conflicts at Murfreesboro, Shelbyville, Chickamauga, Maryville, Knoxville, Decatur, and Jonesboro. Later it moved through Tennessee, aided in the defense of Savannah, and was involved in the campaign of the Carolinas. Its strength was greatly reduced when it surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. The regiment was commanded by Colonel John T. Morgan, Lieutenant Colonels M.L. Kirkpatrick and James D. Webb, and Majors James T. Dye and Henry B. Thompson.

He was wounded at Farmington, Tenn Oct 7th 1863

My Great Great Grandfather, father of my great grandmother Willie Bryant Jennings, who was married to my Great Grandfather, John Henry Jennings, the father of my grandmother Eddle Jennings Rogers, mother of my father, Benjamin Franklin Rogers, Jr.

GGrandfather-James D. Bryant (age 22) enlisted in the 5th Alabama Infantry Battalion, Company B (Calhoun Sharpshooters) in August 1861 and served in Virginia on into 1862. Due to illness or injury he was discharged and returned to Alabama that year. He then enlisted as a private in the 51st Alabama Cavalry, Company D, which was in Joe Wheeler's command in the Army of Tennessee. James Bryant was wounded at Chickamauga, but recovered and served with this unit for the rest of the war. He was the brother of Augustus W. Bryant in the 5th Alabama Battallion (they went to Virginia together) and he later served with his younger brother Alfred Bryant in the 51st Alabama Cavalry. After the war, James Bryant returned to his home in Alexandria in Calhoun County, Alabama, married, and had a long career as a farmer. He died there on June 20, 1923.
