He enlisted 17JAN1863 at Port Royal, VA. He was born in Alabama; a farmer; nearest postoffice, New Harmony; 17 years of age and single.'

James was a 22 year old married farmer at Spring Hill in Barbour Co.. He enlisted at Midway, AL March 14, 1862 .. He was in 12 battles, including Gettysburg in July 1863 ..He was wounded twice, and was captured in Tennessee January 1864. He spent 16 months in the Union Prison at Rock Island, IL .. Walked back home to Barbour Co. in May-June 1865 after war's end ..

Darby enlisted on December 15, 1963, right after his sixteenth birthday. He joined his father James P Swinney in the 15th Co. B. It was rumored that he was captured at The Wilderness, but I have also heard he was surrendered at Appomattox. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Edward enlisted with his father James P Swinney, at Fort Mitchell on July 3rd, 1861. He was taken prisoner at Gettysburg, and died at Fort Delaware. It was rumored that he died from wounds received during a fight with another prisoner, but official record is that he died from inflamation of the lungs. I would be grateful to learn more.

Enlisted at Fort Mitchell on July 3rd, 1861. Sons Edward and Darby served in 15th Co. B as well. James was given a disability discharge on January 18th, 1864. Any info on James, or his sons Darby and Edward, would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph enlisted in Co E of the 15th Alabama Infantry at Daleville, AL at age 20, on 7 Oct 1861. He was wounded at Sharpsburg, VA on 17 Sep 1862, wounded at Chickamauga, GA 20 Sep 1863 and severely wounded at Fussell Mill, VA on 16 Aug 1864. Joseph was discharged in Macon, GA on 6 May 1865

Captured at Gettysburg on July 2,1863.Sent to Ft Delaware,New Castle Delaware on July 9,1863.Listed as in the hospital at Ft.Delaware from April 18 to May 2,1864,and from June 9 to June 20,1864. Discharged on July 11,1865. Died May 5,1884 in Dale County,Alabama.

William Rufus Painter was 20 yrs old when he enlisted 1Oct.1861. Was absent sick at battles of Winchester & Cross Keys but with these exceptions was present in every other campaign & battle until captured at Gettsburg on July 2, 1863.Was held prisoner till wars end. He was good soilder. Colonel William C.Oates, Commander of the 15th Ala. Inf.Regt. The 15th took part in over forty engagements. Suffered heavy casualities at Cold Harbor,Slaughter Mt.,Sharpsburg, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, and the Wilderness. This unit was with Lee at the surrender at Appomattox Court House with just over 170 of the more than 1200 who served with the unit during the war. Private Painter was captured on the 2nd day of Gettysburg by the 20th Maine Regt. at Little Round Top. Held a POW two yrs. at Camp Delaware until 14Jun 1865. In Aug 1893 he was elected the first commander of the Ozark Camp #380 United Confederate Veterans. Buried in Ozark, AL City Cemetery.

Greenberry Bray enlisted in the 15th AL Infantry 03Aug1863 in Brundidge, AL at the age of 18 as a single person. He was married to Elizabeth Warrick after the war on 10Aug1865. He was wounded at Chickamauga and Campbell's Station and declared disable. Children born to him after the war were Fanny Bray and John N. Bray Jr. There has been no death or tombstone record found for either Greenberry or wife Elizabeth. Greenberry's daughter Fanny Bray married James Lee Thomas 19May1889 Pike Co. AL

Enlisted 1 Mar 1862, age 16. Shown on several muster rolls. Received honor listing Darbytown Road, October 7, 1864. He was captured at Sharpsburg in September 1862 and exchanged afterward. He is included on the parole list from Appamattox Court House between 9 Apr and 15 Apr 1865. He was married to Manerva Louisa Bizzel 30 Jul 1858 in Barbour Co., AL. He was the son of John N. Glenn and Elizabeth. His brother G.D. Glenn was killed in action at Sharpsburg (Augustus Glenn). Another brother Walter Glenn was killed in action at Cold Harbor. Hershel, his wife and three children moved to Texas after the war where he remained.

He was childhood friends with the Colonel of the 15th William Oates. Jefferson enlisted on march 19, 1862. He fought in many battles including Gettysburg. At Chickamagua, (excuse my spelling), he helped colonel Oates off the battlefield after Oates was wounded in the leg. When Oates was running for governor of Alabama, he was making a campaign speech and personally commended Jefferson. At the battle of cross keys he was severely wounded in the left arm. While he was trying to get off the battlefield, he saw a friend of his that was in worse shape than Jefferson, so he got another friend to help Jefferson get the other wounded man off the field. Discharged due to wounds.
