This is my maternal grandfather's uncle.

B.F. Guined is my maternal great grandfather to my mothers side. My son Eddie and I try to find as much about him as we can.

Only one card is on file for James and it states that the died in Georgia. We do not know his company. He was 42 years old. and is buried at Greensboro, Hale Co. Alabama

I have found out the Edward was in the War three different times and was a captior twice. He also signe a paper witht the North with a x because it did not mean anything to him. He could read and write very well. He enlisted at Oak Hill Alabama and filed for his pension in Etowah County. Born 1840 Died 1919

George W Loyd enlisted in 31st Alabama Infantry Regiment, Co A on 05 May 1862 in Tallapoosa, AL. He was a prisoner of war. He was one of 64 soldiers captured at Vicksburg, MS, 4 July 1863. CSA. He was born 13 Apr 1829 in Madison, Morgan Co, GA, and died 29 Mar 1902 in Anniston, Calhoun, AL. His wife was Rosannah Stewart. They are buried in Canes Creek Cemetery in Calhoun Co, AL. One of their children was Elijah Lloyd, who married Sarah 'Sallie' Hannah Howard.

Joseph Harper, Private, enlisted Mar 20, 1862, red hair, blue eyes, 5'8', fair complexion, age 29, died at Vicksburg, Feb 1, 1863 BURIED AT SOLDIERS REST CEMETARY GRAVE #731

His Compiled Civil War records show the following. He is on a list of 'rebel prisoners' in General Field Hospital, Bridgeport, Ala., Dec. 1, 1863. Remarks: Wounded and taken prisoner at battle of Shell Mound admitted Nov. 27, Transfer Nash(ville). He was on a roll of prisoners of war, captured by forces under Major General Thomas, commanding, Department of the Cumberland. He was taken at Lookout Mtn. Ga. Nov. 25, 1864. In Nashville he was diagnosed with 'intermittent fever' and transferred Jan. 9, 1864 and turned over to the provost marshal. William's name appears on a roll of prisoners of war at military prison, Louisville, Ky. Was received Jan. 13, 1864. Captured Nov. 24, 1863. Discharged Jan. 17, 1864. Sent to Rock Island, Ill. William B. Holmes appears on a record of prisoners of war who died at Rock Island Barracks, Ill. Died Feb. 7, 1864. Died of chron diahr. Grave number 322. Locality: South of Prison Barracks.

My Gr-Gr Grandfather, Pvt. William S. Williams,enlisted in March 1862 and served until 1865. He was Born: April 11, 1821 in Newton Co., Ga. and Died: Oct. 25, 1898, buried in Cherokee Co.,Al. at the Friendship Baptist Church Cementary. Wilson T. ( Bud )Williams, his son also enlisted in Company 'B' as a Private, but no record has been found concerning his service.

W.T. Bryant was born 13 May 1846 in Floyd County Georgia. He lived in Calhoun County Alabama when he enlisted in Captain Thompson's Company on the 26th of March 1862. He was wounded at Kinston, North Carolina in March of 1865. W.T. died in Cleburne County Alabama 13 April 1929.

William Kennedy Hudson was enrolled by Col. Hundley on April 2, 1862, in Talladega Co., Alabama. He was a 2 Sergeant in Col. Hundley's Regiment. His actual muster in date was April 16, 1862. Little is known about him after that time except for his death date of June 10, 1863, in Marion, Lauderdale Co., Mississippi, where he is buried.

Born January 11, 1834 in Cedar Creek, Coweta, Georgia. In April 1862 in Talladega County Alabama he joined the 31st Alabama Infantry of the Confederate States of America. THE THIRTY-FIRST ALABAMA INFANTRY. This regiment was organized at Talladega, April, 1862, and reported at Chattanooga; proceeded with the army at Knoxville, took part in the fight at Cumberland Gap, June 18, 1862, and at Tazewell, August 6th. It was in Kentucky, but not in the midst of the fighting. In Mississippi it fought well and suffered heavy loss at Port Gibson. It suffered all the privations of the long siege of Vicksburg and was surrendered with that place, having lost severely; when exchanged, was assigned to the army of Tennessee and brigaded under General Pettus; took a prominent part in the Dalton-Atlanta campaign. It went with Hood into Tennessee, suffering severely at Columbia and Nashville, and was in the rear guard of the army on its return. Sent into the Carolinas, it fought brilliantly at Bentonville with considerable loss, and finally surrendered at Greensboro, with but a small remnant of the over-full regiment that started out. Battles: Fought on 6 Apr 1862 at Shiloh, TN. Fought on 1 May 1863 at Port Gibson, MS. Fought on 16 May 1864 at Resaca, GA. Fought on 15 Jun 1864 at Big Shanty, GA. On June 13 1863 He was slightly wounded at Champion Hill, Mississippi at the Battle of Bakers Creek. Pvt. John H. Heath was captured at Port Gibson and imprisoned at Alton, Illinois Prison, where he died of Typhoid in June, 1863.

[Private Company G, 31st Alabama Infantry CSA] James Edmond Holmes, survived the Civil War after serving with the 31st Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company G. James was captured at Big Shanty, Georgia and served one year in prison at Rock Island, Ill. He was released after signing an Oath of Allegiance, June 20, 1865.

john mccain, james madison mccain, and L.B.(Little Berry)Mccain,(named for his grandmother who was cherokee), were brothers. they enlisted on the same day in talladega, alabama. L.B. McCain died in the atlanta campaigne of pneumonia. the other two brothers survived the war. James Madison McCain was my great great grandfather.

Little Berry McCain(his service record shows him as L.B. McCain.) was james madison mccain and john mccain's brother. he was named for his grandmother who was cherokee. he died of pneumonia during the atlanta campaign and is buried in one of the numbered graves in the alabama section of the confederate cemetery in marietta, ga. it is unknown which grave he is in due to the name/number records being destroyed. his brothers survived the war and are buried in clay county alabama.

Died during war, but date/location is unknown. Pension claim filed for on 4 Oct 1862 in Montgomery County, AL by Mary Broadway (mother) who remarried after his fathers death about 1845.
