He enlisted on 1 Jun 1861 as a Pvt. Inf. Co. B 50th Alabama. He was born abt. 1843 in Limestone Co., Al. He died after 1910 in Limestone Co., Al. He married Anizanna T. Smith on the 5 Oct 1865 in Giles Co., Tn. He is buried in Legg Cemetery in Limestone Co., Al.

Resigned later and formed a Calvery unit that operated in North Alabama behind enemy lines.

He and his brother, William Hop Legg, were killed in the Battle of Ezra Church during the battle of Atlnata. He is buried in Legg Cemetery in Limestone, Co. Alabama.

Called “Ned”; joined at beginning of war; captured (don’t know when or where). Prison at St. Louis and released to go home in 1861. He was given a little money, but it was Confederate so not worth anything. He walked back to Tennessee. He is buried at Fairlawn Cemetery, Comanche, Oklahoma.

Rufus H. Strange b. 1841 in Limestone County, Alabama in 1866 Married Mary Jane Gray. They moved to Coleman County, Texas after 1868.

Widow's pension applications show Co C 50th AL,Deas' Brigade, which family members have known. The fact that the company is listed as having fought at Missionary Ridge and at Peach Tree Creek gives reason to believe he fought at the first and died at the second. His name (using various spellings) does not show up on any roll found. Have no reason why. Widow was approved for pension at each application which substantiates his service.

Elijah, was my Grand Father, I'm the daughter of Marvin C. Sanders. He married my Mother Opal Rosella Young. Together they had six Children. They lost one child , by a miscarriage I belive. Then there was Elmer A. Sanders, Marvin C. Sanders, Beverly J. Sanders, Leona G. Sanders, and last but not least, They adopted a girl baby, who was eleven months younger then Leona. Her name was Patricia Ann (Boyd) Sanders

William was killed at Adairsville, GA, during the Atlanta campaign. He possibly served in Co C, 50th Alabama Infantry.

William Henry Smith joined the 26/50th Al. Inf. Co. 'C' as a private on Sept. 30, 1861 at Paint Rock, Al. He signed up as 'Quirl' Smith, his nickname. He also served briefly in Russell's 4th Alabama Cavalry in 1862 for a few months and is recorded as present in Company H. as Q. Smith. He participated in the following battles: Murfreesboro, Chickamauga (wounded), Missionary Ridge, Resaca (wounded), Kennesaw Mtn., Atlanta, Franklin and Nashville. He was captured near Huntsville, Al. in Dec. 1864 and paroled in Jan. of 1865.

According to his application for pension W.B. surrendered 'at Greensboro, N.C. with Gen'l J.E. Johnston.'

William was born in SC, the son of John W. McCollum and Hannah Cantrell. He was married to Lydia (Lidia) Ann Martin in Habersham County, GA on Nov 25, 1845. William originally enlisted in Co. B of the 26th Alabama Infantry but there was already a 26th Inf. in service. When this was discovered they were renamed the 50th Alabama Infantry and was listed in Co. D. William was shot through the lower abdomen at Chickamauga around Sept 19, 1863 and died two days later on Sept 21, 1863. His widow, Lydia, filed her widow's pension application in 1891 from Georgia, where she had returned to in 1866 after the war was over. William and Lydia's son, Thomas J. McCollum, is my great-great-great grandfather.

Enlisted on Oct. 15,1861 age 43 in Summit, Blount Co.,AL by Captain George W. Arnold. Mustered in at Camp Bradford on Nov. 9, 1861 near Huntsville, AL. Period of 3 years. Per report from Capt. Arnold, he died due to illness; before the Battle of Shiloh, 1862, he was sent to hospital in MS (probably in Columbus) and wasn't heard from again. Born in SC. Married to Sarah Roberson. Father of seven children: William, James, Elizabeth, Daniel T, Benjamin, Nancy, and Sarah F Roberson.

Samuel mustered in Athens, AL, in September, 1861. He survived the war and married Martha Elizabeth Legg in August, 1867. They moved to Texas about 1894 and Samuel died in Wills Point, Texas, on July 7, 1903, and is buried there in the White Rose Cemetary.

James Monroe Liberty Independence Nixon born 7 Feb 1824 in Limestone Co., Alabama He died 30 Dec 1903 in Limestone Co., Alabama. He is buried in Poplar Creek Cemetery in Limestone Co, Alabama. He is my children's G.G.G.G.Grandfather. He was given a medical discharge in 1862.

James had 3 brothers that served the Confederacy

Lindsey has five cards in his archival file. He was born in Chester County SC and his family moved to Alabama. He was 32 years old when he joined at Athens Ala. on 17 Sept. 1861, Capt. J.H. Malone's Co., the [Limestone Rebels]. He was promoted to the rank of 5th Sergt. on 17 Sept. 1861. He is sick in quarters. In June 1862 he is assigned extra duty as unit Flag Bearer. He was killed in battle on the first day of the battle of Stones River, Rutherford County Tenn., on 31 Dec. 1862. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Murfeesburo,Rutherford Co. Tenn.

Ira was 36 when he enlisted at Tuscalaoosa, Ala. in Co F 50th Regiment Alabama Infantry. He suffered a gunshot wound to the neck fracturing his vertebra. Sent on sick leave 30 Aug 1864 to Tuscaloosa. 12 Feb 1865 he is sick in the Way Hosp. Meridian, MIss. and transferred to Selma. He was the father in Law of my cousin.

gg grandaddy Crider is burried at Cahawba Valley Baptist Church in Bibb co Al. I have no other information on him except that they say he was wonded in virginia and that he was dischared mabe with some kind of sickness.. Information is shown on his grave marker.

John H. and Azor C. Hayes were brothers from Jasper, Alabama John was captured Resaca, Ga. Prisoner of war Camp Douglass 1864. Azor Hayes Captured Stone Rivers Died Feb. 5, 1863 wounded in battle Murfreesboro.

James Henry Rogers is my G.G.Grandfather. He was born 1 June 1847 in Giles Co., Tennessee He died on 6 May 1926 in Limestone Co., Alabama. He is buried in Legg Cemetery.

The story passed down is that he was emitted into the army shortly after his fathers death. He was supposedly thirteen

Captain Thomas K. Lanford served in the 26th regiment which later consolidated into the 50th. He served with distinguished service from 1861 until his death on 28 July 1964 at the Battle of Ezra Church at Lick Skillet Road. He fought in battles at Chicamauga Ridge, Shelbyville, Nashville, and at Ezra Church (near Atlanta, Ga). He left behind his wife, Camilla, and 7 children.
