2nd Arkansas Cavalry

This was my great grandfather he joined the union army in Springfield,MO . He was 20 years old when he joined. I understand there were 1700 men in his regiment. He was mustered out in august 1865 in Memphis,TN. I did note on his service records that he was fined $2.00 for damage to equipment. My great grandmother drew his war pention untill 1926.

He also served in the 14th Arkansas infantry on the Confederate side. There is more information about how that came to pass under that listing.

Enlisted in Company A, Arkansas 2nd Cavalry Regiment on 25 Aug 1863. Promoted to Full Corporal. Promoted to Full Sergeant.

James Queen born 1831 Bedford Co, TN. Died APR 1863 in Helena, Phillips Co, AR of Typhoid Fever. Later buried at the National Cemetery in Memphis Tennessee. married 5-5-1853 Independence Co., AR Delia (Deliah) Jane Tate(B. 1835) (d.1870-1880) Their daughter is my Great Grandmother. Mary Elvara Queen (b. 11-1862 m. Stone Co., AR d. 8-1879 buried Timbo Cemetery, Stone Co., AR) m. Robert Looney Farris (b. 8-1861)

Reuben's enlistment into the Union 2nd Cavalry, Company C, lists his place of birth as Bedford Co. TN. Reuben is listed in the 'ROLL OF HONOR' who died in Defense of the American Union. He was originally interred in the Christ Church Cemetery at St. Louis, but moved to the National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, MO, ten miles south of St. Louis and 704 feet west of the Mississippi River (in 1869 that was the location of the cemetery). Most of the Union soldiers in that cemetery died in hospitals in St. Louis, MO. Reuben is in Section #48, grave #150. He died Feb. 23, 1863 of Typhoid Fever. Evidence that Reuben is James brother, they enlisted together AND on a postal card (from the 1860's) sent to the family from a Reverend Ford, giving details of James QUEEN's death, it also says 'His brother Reuben' had died in February. Postal Card is in my possession. In the 1850 Independence County, Arkansas,census, my James QUEEN is listed with Reuben, John, Easther, and George Queen. There is also an Elizabeth QUEEN. I'm assuming that this is their mother until I can prove or disprove it otherwise. She was 60 years old at the time and it states she was born in Tennessee.

John was the son of my great great grand father Junius H Farrar. He enlisted along with dad and brother on July 12, 1863 in Fayetteville AR. And served the war in Company F

Great great grandfather Junius and his two sons John and Nicholas enlisted on July 12, 1863 at Fayetteville, Arkansas. They spent the entire war on patrols and chasing Quantrill and partisan Confederate irregulars in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. He was discharged with his sons in Memphis TN in June of 1865 and they WALKED home from there. I have a complete bio and records of his enlistment

Nick was a son of my great great grandfather Junius Farrar. He enlisted on July 12, 1863 with his dad and they served the entire war in Company F.

He lived in Duplin Co. NC, and enlisted in Fayetteville.

Seriously wounded in a battle near Springfield MO during the early part of the war. The men picking up the wounded soldiers thought he was dead and passed him by. Some 30 hours later a woman searching the battlefield for missing relatives found that he was still alive and reported the fact to the soldiers. When he recovered from his wounds he went back to his company and served until the war was ended. When the war ended he returned to Richland Township. Relationship: Cousin

Turner, George A. Private/Private Age 19; 5 ft. 8 in., fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair. Born in Bradley County, Tennessee. Farmer. Enlisted 25 Mar 1864, Bellefonte, Arkansas, by Capt. O'Brien.

Huston Taylor was born May 26, 1907 at Overton Tennessee, to William and Milla Taylor. William was a veterna of the war of 1812. The Taylors moved to Franklin county Arkansas about 1838. Huston was at the battle of Vicksburg Miss serving in the 15th NW Ark Inf co. I. Huston was captured and paroled there when Vicksburg fell. When Huston returned to Ark he found that part of the state were he lived under the control of the US. He along with his brother John and several of his brothers in law enlisted at Fort Smith Ark into the 2nd Ark Cav Co k. Huston was married to Sarah Taylor. Huston survived the war and had a large family, of which my grandfather was his youngest son. Huston received a veterans pension. Huston and Sarah passed from this world in 1907. They are both buried at the Highfill-Taylor cemetery at Franklin county Arkansas. The grave of Huston is marked by a Govt Civil war headstone.

John Taylor was born 1843 in Franklin county Arkansas to William and Milla Taylor formally of Overton Tennessee. John enlisted into the 2nd Ark Cav Co K along with his brother Huston and several of his brothers in law of the Nichols family. John served until the end of the war and received a veterans pension. John was married to Narcissa Blancett and later to Mary Bell Stubblefield. John had not Children. John passed from this life April 5, 1890. John is buried at Highfill-Taylor family cemetery at Frnklin county Arkansas.
