He enrolled 28 Dec 1863, Dardanelles, AR. He mustered out 30 June 1865 at Little Rock, AR. He is described as 33 yrs old, 5'9' tall, dark hair, dark eyes and born in Giles Co.,TN. Records show he was on detached service 30 March 1864. He married Elizabeth P. Gantt after the war.

His record from the National Archives states that he enrolled at Dardanelles, AR on 28 Dec 1863; mustered in 28 Jan 1864 at Little Rock, AR. After the war he married Margaret Reed.

Little Rock, AR Martin, Thomas L. Pvt - Enl 11 Feb 1864 at Little Rock, AR. Age 39, ht 5’ 10”, farmer, born in Giles Co, TN. Reported as Deserted 22 Oct 1864 at Little Rock, AR. TL was on a Scout mission when captured by CSA forces and was charged with desertion from the CSA. Prior to being a Union Scout TL was a CSA Recruiting Officer who was disenchanted with the Confederacy and he renounced his position and joined the Union. TL was tried and convicted and was to be executed; he excaped the night before he was to be hung. He excaped with the ball and chain attached to his ankle. After his escape he helped a Mo. Cav. Officer who had escaped from a CSA POW camp in Tyler, Tx. He was also being pursued by CSA Forces. TL reported back to his unit on 8 Nov 1864 he was arrested, charged and convicted for desertion and imprisoned. In Jan 1865 the Maj from the Mo. Cav. who TL help sent a letter to the Commanding General explaining the facts surrounding TL Martin absence and excape from CSA forces, the letter requested that TL Martin be released and restored with all back pay. Thomas Lee Martin was released from arrest and restored to duty without loss of pay 28 Feb 1865. Lost horse stolen or killed by CSA forces around Martin Mill skirmish. May 1864.
