Enlisted in Company B, Arkansas 1st Infantry Battalion on 10 June 1862. Died on 21 November 1862 at St Louis, MO.

Enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant on 20 July 1862 at the age of 27. Commission in Company B, 1st Battn Infantry Regiment Arkansas on 20 July 1862. Mustered out on 31 December 1862.

18 yr old Jefferson enlisted with father June 20, 1862 Mustered out July 20, 1862. Marched to Helena, Ar from Batesville, Ar 1st Battalion was ordered to Sulphur Springs, but the unit was not healthy enough to perform duties. All sent to Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Mo by steamer (Edward Walsh for most). Jefferson was mustered out Dec 31, 1862 but never returned home. Family lore says he was captured by CSA and starved to death on ship before prisoner exchange with Union...trying to find any hint of him. (Not the TJ James listed that went to Okl with Mo wife.)
