1. Pvt Only Owens volunteered to serve for 30 days in Captain Ballard's Company of Arkansas Volunteer Infantry, answering the November 5th call of Col. Borland. Mustered into the service of the CSA on November 17, 1861. Mustered into and out of service at Pitman's Ferry, Randolph County, Arkansas. 2. OWEN, ONLEY, 3rd CPL, Co D, 30th AR Inf Rgt - enl 24 Jul 1862 in Randolph Co; furloughed 30 days from 14 Apr 1863. McNeill's Rgt Initially - In Hart's Rgt Mar & Apr 1863. 3rd Cpl, Rogan's Rgt; on Co. Muster Roll, Jul & Aug 1863. 3. Lastly was a Pvt, Co L, 15th MO Cav Rgt. 4. Died 19 Jun 1884, Randolph Co, AR. Buried in Pratt Cem, Ripley Co, MO.

Oliver P. Davidson is my gr.grandfather. He enlisted 14 June 1862 in Little Rock Company Muster Roll 1863 Hart's Regiment lists him as a deserter. I am seeking information on Hart's Regiment and also McNeill's.

William was born 26 Sept 1822 in Martin County North Carolina. The 1860 census shows him 38 years old in Indian Bay, Monroe Co. Arkansas. He enlists as a Pvt on 10 March 1862 in in Co E 25th Ark. Turnbull's Battalion of Infantry. On 21 March he is acting as a Sgt. He has 4 cards in his archival file for the 25th. His last card has him as acting Sgt Major and is given a commission to raise a band of Mounted Partisan Rangers. This CMR places him in Capt. Noles Company of the 30th Ark. Infantry. His gravestone gives his rank as Captain. I reason that his commission was fulfilled and he was a Captain in the new Partisan Rangers. I have been unable to find that documentation. He died 12 Oct 1890 in Indian Bay, Monroe Co. Ark. and is buried at the Va_ey Grove Cem. in Monroe Co. Ark.

Jesse Born 1834, Enlisted 14 June 1862 Little Rock, Died August 1862. He is buried in Billings Cemetery in Ark. Tombstone says date of death and Civil War. How can I find out where he died and cause of death? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Son of William B. Adams and Elizabeth Hall, Calloway Co., Ky. (1834-1886), buried in the Sinking Springs Cemetery, Calloway Co., Ky., married Juantha King in 1863, (1846-1881). The family was living in Arkansas when the war started. Moved back to Calloway County. (Enlisted, 17 June 1862, Mt. Vernon, Ark., Captured 7 July 1862, Cotton Plant, Ark.). Information provided by great, great grandson, Stephen Lynn King.

John Cary was born in Tennessee in 1830. He was a farmer and stockman in the Gilkerson Settlement a few miles west of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was the oldest child of pioneers, Benjamin Cary and Sallie Stotts, and moved with his family from Carroll County, Tennessee to Greenfield Township, near Bolivar in Poinsett County, Arkansas in 1838. They farmed, raised stock and were early hunters of this section. During the Civil War, John and his family were living in the lower settlement, south of Jonesboro. John enlisted in the Confederate army at Jonesboro, Arkansas on July 2, 1862 and served as a private soldier in Company I, McNeill's 30th Arkansas Infantry. McNeill's Regiment engaged in the battles of Jonesboro, Arkansas on August 2, 1862; Prairie Grove, Arkansas on December 7, 1862; and Helena, Arkansas on July 4, 1863. According to a story passed down in the family, 'John came home from the war on leave for a short time. As he was leaving to go back to his company his wife followed him to the gate crying and holding a picture of him to her bossom. She begged him not to go back as she believed he would never return. In response, John took the picture, threw it down and ground it into the ground with the heel of his boot. He then got on his horse and rode away. Just as she had feared, he never returned, dying of measles at Camp Anderson, about 8 miles north of Little Rock on May 10, 1963.' Elizabeth never remarried and after her death all the letters John had written to her during the war were buried with her. John's actual burial site is unknown, but there is a Confederate memorial stone for him next to his wife's gravestone in Pierce Cemetery at Friendly Hope Church on Friendly Hope Road, Jonesboro, Arkansas. Elizabeth drew a Confederate widow's pension from the State of Arkansas until her death in 1916.
