31st Arkansas Infantry

My Great, Great Grandfather. Killed in action 20 Sept 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga Georgia. Enlisted at Quitman, Arkansas, December 25, 1861; age 37

This is my great-great-great grandfather. He was Captain of Company B.

Ive been researching my ancestors and wanted to ad my GGG Grandfather, Captain William J Cullum to his unit.

In hospital September 4, 1864 - wounded in right shoulder at the Battle of Peachtree Creek

Enlisted at Dover, Arkansas, February 1, 1862; age 18; absent, detailed to drive ordnance wagon, February 28, 1863; wounded at Jackson, Mississippi, May 1863; absent wounded in hospital at Lauderdale, Mississippi, June 30, 1863; absent without leave, August 31, 1864; captured with guerrillas in Polk county, Arkansas, November 25, 1864; sent to Little Rock, Arkansas; released on oath of allegiance, May 7, 1865.

Enlisted March 5, 1862 with his Brother (a year older) William J. Kirkland, Private. William J. Kirkland died of desease August 1, 1862. Thomas B. Kirkland is my GrGrGrandfather.

William J. Kirkland is the Brother of my GrGrGrandfather Thomas B. Kirkland. William J. and Thomas B. Kirkland enlisted March 5, 1862 and both were born at Humphreys Co., TN. William J. Kirkland died of desease on August 1, 1862.

Looking for anything on the history of this unit before its consolidation into the 4th....My GGGrandfather Phillips was from St Clair county Mo(Osceola MO) He first served in the Mo state guard with Price... When it disbanded he left Mo and enlisted at Bayou de View, Arkansas, March 1, 1862; age 29; elected first lieutenant, May 26, 1862; wounded in the left arm on a scout, August 20, 1862; left at Barboursville, Kentucky, August 29, 1862, and captured; sent to Cincinnati, Ohio; exchanged, October 20, 1862; absent wounded in Arkansas, February 28, 1863; dropped from the rolls, April 30, 1863....Anything more about him or this unit would be greatly appreciated
