Enlisted at Fort Smith, Arkansas on July 9, 1862. He was 5’ 8” tall with blue eyes and light hair and complexion. Born: About 1835 in Jackson Co., GA Died: unknown Buried: unknown Married: Elvira Blair Children: 2 Occupation: farmer

Enlisted on May 15, 1862 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. Died in camp near Lewisburg, Arkansas on April 3, 1863.

John enlisted in August 1862 in Benton County Arkansas. Served until May of 1865. He had a brother named William Barnett Dean in the same unit. Wiliam's rank was First Sergeant.

[3 x great granduncle] Private; enlisted 15 Aug 1862 in Benton Co., AR; regiment engaged at Prairie Grove 7-8 Dec 1862, and in attack on Helena, AR 4 Jul 1863. At the latter, Pvt. Mitchell was captured, sent to Military Prison at Alton, IL on 9 Jul 1863, and thence to Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL on 23 Jul 1864. Died 5 Dec 1864. Buried in Grave 223, Block 2, Chicago City Cemetery. Note: The 35th Arkansas Infantry was also known as the 22nd Arkansas Infantry (not to be confused with an earlier 22nd Arkansas Infantry, which was redesignated as the 20th Arkansas Infantry).

Doing research on the 35th Arkansas and the 35th Illinois. 3 soldiers from the same family. 2 from Ill. and the other from Arkansas! Curious to know about the activity of the 35th Arkansas in Sept. of 1863. Francis was captured on Sept. 10th. Sent to Gratiot Prison in St.Louis. He died March 22, 1864.
