W H Andrews signed up at St Vincents Island, Florida late 1861 for one year. He was wounded and captured at Murfreesboro Jan 2 and 10th respectfully of 1863. Transferred to Camp Chase, then exchanged in March of 1863. Paroled for 100 days, then went back to unit. Present on rolls available after this, but I'm looking for historical data to confirm WH's transfer to a Georgia unit in late 1864. Cannot confirm this but trail goes cold and no death or burial is to be found.

He defected to the Union towards the end of the war

Enlisted 6/1/1861 into Co. 'A' and transferred 5/29/1862 into Co.'D' 8th Florida Infantry. Died of disease 11/22/1862 at Culpepper Ct. House,Va.

Joseph S Thomas was the step son of John G Thomas and Eliza Raulerson. Eliza was married to John Milledge Brannen. and brought two son's into the marriage. Joseph and James. Joseph and James served in the 4th Fl Infantry. Joseph like his brother was assigned detached duty driving beef cattle. On 22 July 1862 he is sick in the hospital in Greenville, Alabama. He saw action in Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. He was parole at Greensboro, NC on 1 May 1865 after swallowing the yellow dog.

Lost his right hand at Chickamauga Georgia. Went on to serve until the surrender.

Josiah was born circa 1848 in Madison County Florida. He enlisted as a teenager in Co E 4th Florida Infantry. His records are meager but provide the following. He was transferred to Co. E 1st Florida Infantry on 6 April 1865 and mustered out on 26 April 1865 in Orange County North Carolina. He died in Lamont, Jefferson Co Florida on 22 Feb. 1891. He was the husband of my 3rd cousin 3x removed Angelina Strickland a great grand daughter of Temperance Gandy 1802 - 1850

My Great-Grandfather G.W. Parrish served with the 4th FL Inf. and was given a medical leave in 1864 from Dalton, GA to return home for 60 days. He was transferred to the Florida Home Guard in Lake City, FL until April 1865. The orders were confused and he was listed as a deserter on the 4th muster rolls. He fought for and received his pension and cleared his name in the early 1900's. He is buried in Elzy Chapel Cemetery in Worthington Springs, FL.

Charles was born at Catfish Creek, Marion Co. South Carilina on 6 Jan 1837. The 1860 census has him at 22 y/o In Marion County Florida. The Post Office is at Ocala. He enlisted at Ocala in Captain Fletcher's Co. Fla. Infantry. He has 17 cards in his archival file but only a few are legible. At some point in his service, he was ordered back to Floride to drive cattle. He saw action at Murfreesboro, Jackson, Chickamauga, & Missionary Ridge. The unit was so decimated that at Chicamauga of the 172 engaged all were either killed, wounded or captured. Only 18 men emerged intact. At this point the 4th was consolidated with the 1st Florida Cavalry Regiment. The fight continued at the Brick Church, Atlanta, Franklin-Nashville Campaign and on to Carolina with the last fight at Bentonville, Of the 983 men that began with the regiment, only 23 men surrendered in April 1865. Charles died 20 Oct 1906 in Orange County, Florida and is buried at Lakeview Cem. Sanford, Seminole Co. Fla. He was the father-in-law of my 6th cousin 3 x removed. Virginia Alley Hughey.

He deserted on Sep 3, 1863. He enlisted on Feb 2, 1864 in the Union Army 1st Florida Cavalry Company C as a Private. He was promoted to Corporal on 01 Aug 1863. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 01 Oct 1863. He was transferred to Company H, Florida 1st Infantry Regiment on 09 Apr 1865. He was paroled and released on 26 Apr 1865 at Orange County, NC. Circumstantial evidence suggests that James was a brother of Wilson Lumpkin Raley, an officer in the unit. WLR's father was Jamesy ('Jimpsey'); there is no other evidence that Jimpsey had a son named after him--which was very common; the 1880 Washington County, FL census has an Elizabeth Raley, living with her brother, Thomas Reddick--a James Raley married an Elizabeth Reddick in Georgia in 1837. Some Family Trees on Ancestry have this James's father as Abner--circumstantial evidence suggests that Abner and Jimpsey were brothers; therefore, if this James E. Railey wasn't WLR's brother, he was most likely his first cousin.

John Julius 'Jackson' Russ (1809-1867) was an ordained Methodist Minister and a early pioneer (1830s) to Jackson and Washington Counties of West Florida. John J. Russ was born in Brunswick County, NC. Military records indicate John J. Russ was a Private in the Confederate Army ( Co. H, 4th Florida Infantry, Washington County Invincibles) As an ordained minister John J. Russ probably served as a Chaplain for his unit but I have found no record to date to validate same. John J. Russ had two sons, who also served in the Confederate Army. John Robert Russ, Sgt (1840-1864) was killed in the Battle of Atlanta and another son, James Lemuel Russ, (1839-1917) who survived the war. John J. Russ served as Clerk of Court for Washington Co, Fl before and after the War, he died in office.

L M Mozley's name is spelled Mosely on some rosters. He was wounded and captured by the Yankees at The Battle Of Stones River (Murfreesboro, TN). He was my GGG Grandfather.

Enlisted 7/31/1861 into Co.'I', listed as wounded 1/2/1863 Murfreesboro, Tn (severely in hip); POW 1/2/1863 Murfreesboro, Tn., paroled 4/30/1863 Ft. McHenry, MD; Exchanged 5/1/1863 City Pt., Va., transferred into 'I' 1st Florida Cons. Infantry and surrendered 5/1/1865 at Greensboro, NC.

Jackson County Florida, Bascom. Mustered in Marrianna, surrendered 1865 NC. One of 27 original members of 4th to surrender.

1 of 23 men to return from his regiment. He was the last man in confederate service to return to the state of Florida and was a prisoner in New York for 7 months. He enlisted at age 15 and also served with the Florida Cow Cavalry.

James was born 6 Dec. 1836 in Columbia Co. Fla. He was about 24 years old when he joined Co K 4th Florida Infantry at Tampa, Florida on 20 July 1861. He was detailed to drive cattle for some time. He saw action in Alabama and Tennessee. He and his unit arrived late in the day at the Battle of Olustee, Fl. His wife drew a pension based on his Confederate service. He served honorably and survived the war. He is buried at Glover Cemetery, Polk County Florida.
