Walter enlisted into his fathers regiment at the age of 15yrs as a orderly to his father's staff,Lt. Colonel Hiram Prather.He then enlisted into the 137th Indiana Infantry,Co.'B'.

Enlisted along with his father (Hiram) and 3 brothers after the firing on Ft.Summner.Served in battles of Shiloh,Stone's River,Chickamauga, and Chattanooga.His rank mustered in was Sergeant,rank at mutering out was 2nd Lieutenant. He was wounded twice and recieved a commission as Lieutenant by the war's end.

Released 12 April 2007 History of Daviess County, Missouri - Harrison Township Biographies George May Trotter is a native of Indiana, and was born in Bartholomew county,-on the 29th of September, 1835. He was partially educated in the county of his birth, and in 1856, went to Lebanon, Warren county, Ohio, where he finished his education. Returning to his native State and county, he engaged in farming and school-teaching, following the former in the summer and the latter during the winter months. When President Lincoln called for 75,000 troops, at the outbreak of the rebellion, Mr. Trotter enlisted in Company B, of the Sixth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, the company being under command of Captain Augustus Abbott. After three months' service as a non-commissioned officer, Mr. Trotter was honorably discharged and, returning home, again resumed teaching, in which he continued till March, 1862. In August, 1862, he recruited a company, of which he was commissioned captain by Gov. O. P. Morton, and served in that capacity until May 20, 1865. He was then promoted to lieutenant-colonel, and held that rank till his final discharge, June 8, 1865. Returning to Indiana, he remained till July 4, and then came west, settling in. this State and county, where he has ever since been engaged in farming, stock-raising, and school-teaching. He owns a farm of 159 acres of well improved land in Harrison township, on which he and his family now reside. Colonel Trotter was married, in Indiana, March 18, 1862, to Miss Hattie Hart, of Columbus, a lady born February 21, 1836. They are the parents of five children; named, respectively, Charles F., born June 17, 1866; Giddie M., born October 29, 1868; Hattie D., born November 4, 1870; George A., born October 2, 1874; and Josie, born March 18, 1877. The last named child died July 11, 1878.

John Lafayette Jones was born 13 August 1836 in Jennings County, Indiana to Daniel Jones and Susannah Persons. Three of his brothers DeWitt, Lotharo and Joseph also served in the Union Army. Two, Lotharo and Joseph were KIA. John enlisted on 20 August 1861 in Indianapolis, Indiana and was discharged 22 September 1864. He died in Lyon County, Kansas 13 September 1905. He first married Eliza Jane Steinberger who died in Bartholomew County, Indiana 1 April 1866 and second married Elizabeth Pence.

Was mustered in as a 1st Lt. and mustered out as a Capt.

I have copy of obit that lists his company. He died at Missionary Ridge Nov 1863. He was my great Uncle. He was married in 1861 to Laura Hackney. He was a resident of Madison,Indiana. Father was Lewis Howard Hardenbrook mother was Elizabeth Leach. Father and 2 brothers also in Union Forces

Enlisted as a Captain on 23 April 1861 at the age of 28. Mustered in Company H, 6th Infantry Regiment Indiana on 25 April 1861. Mustered out on 2 August 1861 at Indianapolis, IN.

Notes for OLIVER HARRY PALMER: Obituary-Oliver H. Palmer The Severyite(Elk County, KS) 2 September 1898 ''DIED...Of typho-malaria fever, at his home in Elk County Saturday night @ 12 o''clock. O.H. Palmer, age 57 years 10 months and 3 days. Mr. Palmer was born in Switzerland County, Indiana, in 1841. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the army and served his country for three years, being wounded at the battle of Chickamaugua. In the year 1865 he was united in marriage to Fannie C. Mix. Six years later he emigrated west, settling on the place where he lived until his death. In 1879 his wife died leaving him with six small children. In 1880 he married Maranda Griswould of Indiana. His last illness lasted seven weeks and four days, during which time he suffered all that man can suffer, and notwithstanding that all was done that loving care and skillful physicians could devise he was called away from this world of sorrow and trouble. He leaves a wife, mother, five children and a host of friends to mourn him. He was a kind husband, loving father, good neighbor and a true friend.'' My Great-Grandfather. Wounded at the battle of Mission Ridge Tenn. and returned to duty. Wounded again at battle of New Hope Georgia. One of only 19 men at mustering out of the original 500 that mustered in on Sept 20, 1861.

Jeremiah was born in North Carolina and originally enlisted in Company A, 16th NC Infantry CSA in April 1861. He was listed as AWOL in Nov 1862. In his Federal pension papers Jeremiah states he left NC in Sept 1863 and made his way to Indianapolis IN. He enlisted in Co K, 8th Indiana Infantry in May 1864 and served with the regiment until they were mustered out in July 1865.
