19th Indiana Infantry

Issac was one of 125 men that servived the Battle at Knobs Farm. It is known as the battle of the corn. Over 1100 Union and 1300 confederates fought nearly all day over a 40 acre farm, the union was said to have won the battle because less than 125 confederates servived.Mostly because they ran out of bullets as night fall came. The 19th was hid behind a small stone wall. I read where it said the corn was mowed to the ground at Battles end.Out of all the corn fields where battles took place this is known as the Battle of the Corn.....

Isaac Branson was born September 19, 1833 and died November 02, 1897. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Bureau, IL. Isaac mustered in as Sergeant. Non-veterans in the 19th mustered out 28 July 1864. On 18 October 1864 the 19th Indiana consolidated with 20th Indiana Infantry. Being a veteran, Isaac mustered in with the 20th Indiana, Co. K as 1st Lieutenant.

Patrick was a cousin to my great great grandmother Eudora Timmons. He enlisted in the 19th when the unit was formed in 1861 and was present and accounted for until July 1, 1863 when he became missing in action during the retreat to higher ground on the first day of the battle of Gettysburg. He was never reported as a prisoner of war and perhaps lies in one of the many unknown graves in the National Cemetery at Gettysburg.

Daniel served from muster date and was transferred to the 20th Indiana after Gettysburg, finishing the war with the 20th Indiana Infantry.
