Solomon was born about 1842 in Indiana. In 1850 he was residing in Mount Vernon, Indiana with his Mother Sarah Dunn. He enlisted in Company F, Indiana 25th Infantry Regiment on August 19, 1861 as a Private. He was mustered out on August 19, 1864. On November 17, 1867 at about 25 years of age he married Katherine Martel who was 16 at the time. However, she is located in the 1870 census living with people other than Solomon. In the 1880 census, Solomon is living with cousins and lists himself as a widower. Still trying to trace this story back
