Indiana. 1850 he is living with his father Hubbard and step mother Margaret - his m other Elizabeth had died 1860 he is married to Louisa, but the three children (Mary A, Catherine El en, and Drusilla have the last name Doubleman) Louisa Doubleman marr Lorenzo Nickerson Aug 1 1858 in Allen Co Ind. These three children must be from her first husband. In the 1870 census Allen Co Ind they are all under the name Nickerson. They now had additional children Christopher ?, Allen and Elizabeth. Then Lorenzo Nickerson married Virginia Hartman July 31 1876 in Henry Co Ohio, and now their new family begins - he has several more children Below is a side note on Lorenzo health and civil War service. Lorenzo reported suffering from diarrhea an eye irritation and red eyes from 1883 until death despite testimony to living an honorable life. Affadivits indicate to his capture by the Rebels in Tennessee and a forced March that according to one affidavit the 74th Indiana lost more people on the march then they did in all their battles. This and the battle of Chickamauga are cited as cause of his illness. Lorenzo was placed in a Newark, NJ hospital at end of war and returned home two months after the regiment. This regiment fought from Tennessee though Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia to arrive in Washington, DC in April 1865 Lorenzo first wife Louisa Kreidler Doubleman Nickerson was the sister of John and Christian Kridler. John seved Co C 74th Indiana. January 3 2006 Richland Township Cemetery Vestaburg Montcalm Michigan Lorenzo is buried in Lot 312 of the old section of the cemetery grave 4. There is one of those round veteran's markers in the ground. She was not sure of a gravestone. 1. Allen survived the war, unlike his brother Levi who died 19 Sep 1863 at the battle of Chickamauga in GA

Levi was killed in the battle at Chickamauga, GA on 19 Sep 1863

Lt. Hamlin is the Great-Grand Uncle of my wife Janice Hamlin-Peterson. He is a former Pvt. (age 19), with the 12th Ind. Vol. Inf. Regmt. (1 year), Co. E, from 1861-1862. When mustered out of the 12th Ind. he joined the 74th Ind. Vol. Inf. Regmt. in 1862 and was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in August of 1862. He died of disease in in a Union camp on 27 Dec. of 1862 in Tennessee at age 21. He is buried in Indiana, Marshall Co. Tippecanoe Twp., Summit Chapel Cemetery, Sect. 4 - Row 10. Charles M. Hency died 22 September 1895 in Scott Township, Van Wert County, Ohio.

David was my Grandfather and lived until I was 12. I Have his civil war discharge.

At that time the war was raging, and heeding the call to arms, he, with a true patriotic spirit, not conforming to the old Mosaics 1 law ' that he should remain with his wife one year after marriage before going to war,' the following August (1861), enlisted in Co. G, 74th Reg. Ind. Inf., under Capt. Davis and Gen. Sherman. He participated in the terrible conflict at Cliickamanga, the battle of Mission Ridge, Jonesboro and other minor engagements, numbering 14 in all. He also accompanied Sherman's army on their march to the sea. He was honorably discharged in June, 1865, having served nearly four years.

This is a copy of an obituary for E. F. Abbott written from Atlanta , GA., Sept 14th, 1864 by W. B. Jacobs. Copied from a book written by Lois L. Abbott Murray, his older sister, published in 1880. 'Captain Abbott was known as a brave and galliant officer; not by his company alone, but by every officer and man in the regiment. I stood with him the day after Chickamauga, the only captains left in our trgiment, by the side of our galliant leader, eol. Baker, as we lay at Rossville, expeting the approach of the enemy. again, we three stood together on Mission Ridge, on the eening of Nov. 26th, 1863, all unharmed. but when we went into this last charge, our brave leader was not with s, and when the victory was won, I found that of the three, who looked together upon the fields of Chickamauga, and Mission Ridge, I alone was left to see this victory of our brave boys, by which the campaign against Atlanta was ended.'
