My husband's 2nd great grand uncle, Bailey Jeffries was born in Barbour Co., VA in 1837. He moved to Indiana in 1860. He enlisted in Co. E, 87th Indiana Inf. on 31, Aug. 1862. He mustered out on March 19, 1863. He died in West Plains, MO. in 1885.

Valentine Ertel enlisted as a Private on 12 Sept 1862 Mustered into Co I 87th Ind. Inf. on 12 Sept 1862 Died about 15 Aug 1864 at Warren County, Ohio. Sarah Ertel, mother, filed for pension on 21 Dec 1872 (Application #207105, Certificate #170653) for service of Valentine Ertel in Co I 87th Ind. Inf.

Pvt Bell enlisted 8 Sep 1862. Participated in 13 engagements, wounded (shot in the jaw); notable engagement 'Sherman's March to the Sea'; also Battle of Chickamauga, Battle of Missionary Ridge and Siege of Atlanta. Participated in the Grand Review - Washington DC 1865. Returned to private life, married, raised a family, his youngest son was my grandfather. Pvt Jacob Bell died 27 April 1931, Coon Rapids, Iowa

My great-great grandfather.Mustered into service Aug.11,1862 at Mishawaka,Ind. Mustered out as a private on June 10,1865. Moved to Clinton,Iowa and worked in one of the local sawmills.Raised a large family with several boys and at least one girl(Alice)my great grandmother.Filed for Civil War Pension(Invalid) on Feb.10,1876. DOB 1844-DOD 1922.Buried in Oakland Cemetery,Clinton.His wife Martha,filed for widow's benifits on Jan. 25,1924.I have in my possession a tin type of him in his uniform with his musket. Also what I believe to be is his'tin'coffee cup and a sample of canister or grape shot.
