144th Indiana Infantry

I am the great grandson of this officer. I have supporting documents regarding this fact. He was wounded at the Battle of Champion Hill as a captain in another regiment during the war, and later joined the 144th.

He was my grandfather and he was first in the 1st Ky. Calvary.

William Higbee is my great great grandfather and is buried in the Simmons cemetery in Hancock county IN. I would appreciate any info anyone has on him. I do not have birthdates or death information.

not sure of the company but think C my great great grandfather He was from Hardin Co, KY He was 30 years of age and a cooper, which I am not sure what is. Discharged 5th day of August 1865 (Info obtained from his discharge paper)

On February 13, 1865, at Jeffersonville, Indiana, William Robertson enlisted in Co. B, 144th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment for one year. He received 33 1/3rd dollars of a 100 dollar bounty for enlisting. William was 18 years old and recorded as being 6 feet tall with black eyes and black hair.

William Lord was my Great-Great Grandfather. He was born at Lanesville, Indiana, January 24, 1842. He grew to manhood in that state and at the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted and served until the close of hostilities. Looking for pictures of his Regiment ect... Thanks So Much, Kathryn

I am a Great Great Grand Nephew of George Crawford Loughmiller(1833-1865)of Hawkins County, TN and later of Harrison County, IN. Uncle George along with his younger brother, Orville Bradley Loughmiller (1835-1888) enlisted and served with the 144th Indiana Volunteer Regiment, Company E as Privates. I am the Great Great Grandson of Orville Bradley Loughmiller (1835-1888) who served in the 144th Indiana Volunteer Regiment, Company E during the Civil War. Lyndon Boyd (born 7/22/1823, died 2/10/1895) was my great grandfather. He came to Indiana in 1859 from Randolph City, North Carolina, and enlisted in Company F on Feb 6, 1865. Lyndon's grandfather, William Boyd (1758 - 1831), was a Revolutionary War veteran (1777 - 1780). Lyndon's son Dr. Joseph Lyndon Boyd (1873 - 1930) was my grandfather, and Joseph Lyndon Boyd Jr. (1914 - 1988) was my father.

Sampson is my great granduncle. Mustered in February 7, 1865, Jeffersonville, Indiana Died from Typhoid fever just 5 weeks later on March 14th Uncle Sampson is buried at Antietam National Cemetery It was the end of the war. Disease was killing more soldiers than battles. Sampson was from a rural area in southern Indiana so coming into contact with his fellow soldiers would have exposed him to any number of communicable diseases like typhoid.

Albert C. Forester(my 3rd great-grandfather) was born in Habersham County, Georgia on 9 September to Hiram J. Forester(1821-1870) and Mariah L. Scealf(1826-unk). He enlisted on 12 Jan 1865 in New Albany, Indiana and died 23 Jan 1923 in Izard County, Arkansas.

Hiram J. Forester(my 4th great-grandfather) was born in Tennessee in 1821 to James and Celia Forester. He enlisted 12 January 1865 in New Albany, Indiana. Hiram died in 1870 in Union, Fulton County, Arkansas.
