24th Iowa Infantry

This is my Great-Great Grandfathers brother. He died at the Battle of Big Black River in Mississippi.

John j Dairy enlisted in Januaty 1864 and was mustered out June 1865. John was married twice. The first time around 1870, had one child, female born arround 1870, named Elizabeth. John later married again around 1880, his wife named Agusta, born in Germany came to the US around 1865, with two children. One named Bertha, the other named Herman. The children's surname - Blank. The year after they were married, Agusta had one additional child, Named John Arther Dairy, who would later become married to Goldie Galaher, from Marion, Ohio and have two children. One named Edmon and 7 years later the second named William L. Dairy. John J. died around 1918. During his enlistment late 1865, John was involved in the capture of Savaana. When mustered out in Georga, John and his new wife settled in Marion, Ohio and lived out the balance of his life in Ohio.

Served with his brother James and Isaac in C Co.

Jackson Boyer was 37 year old when enlisting as a private in the Civil War on 11 Aug 1862. He was shown as living in Springville, Iowa at the time, and a native of Pennsylvania. On 8 Nov 1862 he was assigned to Co H 24th Iowa Infantry. He was wounded in battle on May 16 1863 in Champion Hill, MS and died of his wounds three days later, May 19 1863. He was possibly buried in a mass grave at the battle site on Champion Family Property.

I have annotated the William Harrison Goodlove diary from the Iowa 24th regiment, H Company. I am looking for photos of any soldiers from the regiment, a company photo, diary's or letters from the regiment.

Matthew Thornburg was my GGgrandfather, He was the father of Sidney Dimond.

Sidney Dimond is the son of Matthew Thornberg Dimond. Sidney was killed October 19, 1864 at Cedar Creek,Virginia. He is buried at Winchester National Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia

Abel Jewett and his brother Victor Jewett joined the 24th Iowa Inf. Regt while living and farming in Jones County, Iowa. Only a few months later, on Dec. 13, 1862, Abel Jewett died from disease in Helena, AK. His grave location is unknown. He left a wife and three young children to mourn his death. Victor served with the 24th until the end of the war, upon which he returned to Jones Co.
