Columbus Stowell was a Private and resident of New Bedford ; 44 caulker ; enlisted 19 Sept 1862. Must in 23 Sept 1862 must out on 26 Sept 1863. Co 'B' 4th Mass Cav. from the THE THIRD REGIMENT MASSACHUSETTS VOLUNTEER MILITIA INFANTRY
Four companies. D, E, I, and M, which had enlisted for three years and had joined the regiment in May, remained in the service, and became Companies B, D, E, and I of the 29th Regt., which was then being organized.
Pension records show that his widow: Nancy R Stowell Service B4 Mass Cav. date of filing 6 Feb 1865. Under application #81996 Certificate #52050.
