Was discharged at Hampton, VA July 6, 1861 due to physical disabilty. Returned to MA. Later served in the 26th NY Cavalry guarding the northern borders.... Died in the Stoughton area about 1900.

In the Battle of Antietam-Fall, 1862, wound resulted in loss of right eye. The bullet which destroyed that eye was carried throughout the remainder of his life on his watch chain. Awarded Congressional Medal of Honor
