Marcus Whitlock was captured at Knoxville, TN 11/24/1863. Died at Andersonville of scorbutus 7/05/1864. Buried at National Cemetary grave 2899.

Enlisted as a Private on 29 March 1864 at the age of 30. Mustered in Company D, 2nd Infantry Regiment Michigan on 8 April 1864. Mustered out on 28 July 1865 at Delaney House, Washington, DC.

GG-Grandfather George Tharrett was born Davison Michigan area. served with the 2nd Michigan Infantry Company H. He is buried in the Pinegrove Cemetery, Davison, Genesee county Michigan. Would like to find more on the 2nd Michigan Infantry, and any groups interested in its history.

Nathan Walker Foster was my great-grandfather's brother. He was born in Vermont in 1832, and enlisted in the 2nd Michigan on April 22, 1861. He died of typhoid fever December 6, 1861, at Fort Lyon, Virginia. I have typed transcriptions of letters Nathan wrote to his sister, brother and wife from Georgetown Heights, Camp Winfield Scott, Arlington Heights, and Washington D. C., as well as other family history information. Nathan's brother, Herschel, served with both the 13th Michigan and the 16th Michigan Volunteer Infantry. Another brother, Jordan, served with Co. K of the 78th New York Infantry.

Only 15 years old when he enlisted. Lied about his age. Records show him as being 18 when he enlisted on March 30, 1864.

George enlisted in the 2nd Michigan Infantry in May of 1861. he fought at Blackburns Ford Va, First Battle of Bull Run Va, the Pennisular Campaign and was wounded at the Battle of Williamsburg Va on May 5, 1862. He was discharged from the Army of the Potomic in November 1862.

Looking for information about my great great grandfather. He was discharged due to disability in Jan. 1865 in Washington, D.C.

Died Decemmber 24, 1910 and buried among his wife's people. His son, born shortly after the War ended, is buried in the same cemetery at the Mt. Moriah Free Will Baptist Church, near McShan Alabama, in Pickens County. He is not related to me but lies near my relatives. His survivors were proud of his military service (even to the Union!) enough that he has a Union marker DEEP in Alabama. Hats off to the brave Yankee soldier who just stayed on.
