William was born 7 Dec 1837 in Enterprise, Clark Co. Miss. In the 1860 census he is shown as 22 years old in Jasper County, Miss. The Post Office is at Buckley's Store. He enlists at Buckley's Store 13 Jul 1861, enlisted by Capt. George W Ryan's Co. [Tolson Guard's] Mustered at Enterprise 26 Aug 1861. He has 18 items in his archival file. 2o Apr 1863 he is promoted from 4th to 2nd Sgt. He ends his service as a 2nd Lieut. I have not found the date of that promotion. His first battle was at Murfreesboro on 31 Dec 1862. He was in the Tullahoma, Atlanta, Franklin- Nashville and Carolina Campaigns. He died 8 April 1918 and is buried in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cem. in Jasper County. Miss. He was the father-in-law of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

Ethelred was born 16 April 1844 in Smith County, Alabama. The 1860 census finds him in that county at age16. His exact date of enlistment is unknown. It is believed he was in the Tullahoma Campaign and in the Atlanta Campaign where he was captured near Dalton Ga. on 13 May 1864. He was sent to Louisville, Ky and on to Rock Island Prison in Illinois arriving in that hell hole 14 June 1864 where he contracts severe Bronchitis. He has 14 cards in his archival file. He died 9 Nov 1910 and is buried in the Shady Grove 1st Baptist Church. He is the father-in-law of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

Terrell was killed 16 May, 1864 and is buried in the Stonewall Jacson Cemetery, LaGrange, GA.

Enlisted April 1861 and served all four years of the War. Promoted to Sgt. Major of regiment and later as 2d Lt. Wounded at Chickamauga and at Franklin. Twin brother of Capt. Henry Wallace Crook.

Lorenzo Franklin Wilson was my great great great grandfather, son of Ephraim and Charlotte (Christmas) Wilson. He was born 16 Nov 1825 in Houston Co., GA. but moved with his family to Mississippi where he married Jemima Ann Byrd in Smith County, Mississippi 03 Jan 1849. Lorenzo and Jemima were the parents of five children: Nancy Ann; Harriett Elizabeth; Orlando Franklin; Charlotte L.; and my great great grandmother, Amanda Jane Wilson. Lorenzo enlisted in the 8th Mississippi on 1 June 1861 at Raleigh, Smith County, Mississippi and was captured on 25 November 1863 at The Battle of Missionary Ridge. He was transported to Rock Island Prison where he died on 31 January 1864. Lorenzo was buried the same day he died in grave #320 in the Rock Island Confederate Cemetery. There is a picture of Lorenzo in his uniform on the Rock Island Confederate Cemetery page located at Find A Grave.com.

George was 21 years old. He has 19 cards in his archival file. He joined Capt. G.C. Chandler's Co. 8th Regt. Miss. Vol's. at Enterprise, Miss. on 18 Oct. 1861. George contracted rheumatism while in camp and he suffered with it during the entire war. Being sick in camp and in the hospital twice. 1 Feb. 1864 he is promoted form 3rd Corporlal to 5th Sergt. In 1865 with the ranks of the Infantry depeleted, Miss. consolidated the 3rd Battalion, 5th, 8th, & 32nd Regt. to form the 8th Battn: Miss Infantry.

Joined Co. E 8th Ms.Regiment known as the Tallahoma Hard Shells of Jasper County. He was slightly wounded May 14,1864 at Resaca, Georgia. Placed in command of Co. E and was wounded again July 22 east of Atlanta. He died August 18, 1864 in Atlanta where he is said to be buried. Married Sarah Ann Baucum in 1853, they had 4 children.

Elijah was 26 years old when he enlisted on 15 May 1862 at Mobile , Alabama. He was mustered in the same day by Lieut. Kennedy for the war. This company became the [New] Co.G 8th Regt. Miss Infantry. He was discharged on disability [ total deafness ]at Atlanta on 27 March 1863. He died 1 Aug. 1887 and is buried at Zion Rest cemetery Eucutta, Wayne Co. Mississippi.

William has 18 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 18 Oct 1861 at age 17 in Capt A McNell's Co. 8th Miss Vol's. He has a lot of sickness during the early months and reenlists on 16 June 1862. He fought with his unit through out the war and surrendered with his unit at Citronella Alabama on 4 May 1865. He gave his residence as Clark Co Mississippi. He became a doctor [MD] and married my 3rd cousin 3x removed Virginia C 'Tiny' Thomas 17 May 1866.

CAPTAIN BARRY'S INFANTRY RESERVES On a roll dated May 31 - October 31, 1864 in which Thomas appears on roll as follows: Holcraft, Aaron Thomas Washington, 17, 4/20/1864 (age and date of enlistment) 'The Company was at the Battle of Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 14, 1864, marched 60 miles in 42 hours and, after the battle was over, volunteered their services and went to Chetaw (Chatom?) Alabama to check a Yankee raid under General Roseau and have been in active service on detached duty ever since.' On a roll dated November and December 1864: 'The Company has been on post duty at Meridian, Mississippi ever since last muster except one week it was called out to repell a Yankee raid. Thomas was born 1846 in Holmes Co. Ms. and died 1936 in Drew Co. Arkansas. Enlisted at Enterprise, Clarke Co. Ms. as reserves for the 8th Mississippi.

Ruben was about 19 from Clark Co. Miss. He enrolled and was mustered into service on 18 Oct 1861 at Enterprise, Miss. As Pvt in Capt. A McNeill's Co. 8th Regt. Miss Vol's. [Clark County Rangers]. He fought thru the war except for one sick furlough when he went home. His unit surrendered at Citronelle, Ala on 4 May 1865 and paroled on the 16th May. He is the husband of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed. DEO VINDICE

William has 8 cards in his archival file. He Was about 20 years old when he joined at Beaver Creek, Enterprise Mississippi on 13 Feb 1863. Enlisting in {New} Co F. as a Pvt. He survived the war and died 1895 in Shubta, Clark County Miss. He married Sabra Murrill and fathered at least 7 children. He was my 2nd cousin 4x removed.

Joseph has 12 cards in his archival file. He enlisted in Co E of the 8th Regiment which became Co G. Enlisted at Mobile, Alabama on 15 May 1862. He is 29 years old and is paid his $50.00 bonus. He died of disease at Chattanooga, Tenn on 25 Dec. 1862. He was in Captain White's Company. His estate was settled on 4 June 1863. His widow Emma was paid $20.16 cents. There is a stone for him at Concord Baptist Church, Bay Springs Baptist Church, Jasper County Mississippi. He was the husband of my 1st cousin 5 x removed, named Emma Horton Gandy. He enlisted in 1864 and served under Col. Wilkerson & Capt. Marion Buckley. I am not positive what type outfit, either calvary or infintry. I may have him listed wrong.

Charles's information is limited. He enlisted for 12 months at Enterprise Mississippi on 18 Oct. 1861 in Capt George W Ryan's Company [Tolson Guards]Mississippi Vol's. It was designated as Capt. Ryan's Company [ Old] Co. E and [New] Co. G 8th Regiment Miss. Infantry. He reenlisted at Buckley's Store On 17 July 1862. Enlisted by Brig. Gen. O'Ferrall. Charles was at home on a 20 day sick furlough beginning on 16 Jan. 1862. Deo Vindice

Pvt. Robert Braxton Holcroft was born 1838 in Holmes Co. Ms. and died August 27, 1863 at Chattanooga, Tennessee . Returns on the 27th August, 1863 of the 8th Mississippi show 3 men were killed and one injured at Chattanooga, Tennessee by a shell blast from a shot fired from enemy batteries on Waldrons Ridge. He was survived by his wife Nancy and a son R.B. Holcroft II of Kemper Co. Ms. Nancy's brother Burwell Jones also served in this unit.

William was born 1 July 1841 in Jasper County Mississippi. The 1860 census has him at 19 y/o in that county. The Post Office is at Buckley's Store. He enlists at that location on 13 July 1861 in Capt George W Ryan's Co [ Tolsons Guards]. He musters into Confederate Service on 24 August 1861 at Enterprise. June 1863 has him posted as a bridge guard. In the battle of Murfreesboro, he is shot in the left hand and loses a finger. Battles: Tullahoma and Atlanta Campaigns, Chickamauga, and Franklin, where he is captured and sent to to the military prison at Louisville, Ky. and on to Camp Douglas. He dies 17 Sept 1915 in Meridian, Lauderdale Co. Miss. He was the father-in-law of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

John Covington Thomas Jr. was born 2 March 1822 in Jasper Co. Miss. He was abt 40 years old when he enlisted at Ellisville Miss in Jones County Miss., in Capt. Samuel Prince's Co. 8th Regiment Miss. Infantry on 4 May 1861. This unit became Co. K.8th Regt Miss Infanty and mustered into Confederate Service on 18 Oct. 1861 at Enterprise Miss. John spent most of his time in the service as a Hospital worker. He became disabled and was honorabley discharged for disability on 6 Feb. 1863.

Elijah Washington enlisted in the Confederate Army on May 4, 1861 at Ellisville, MS. He was assigned to Co. K, 8th Miss. Inf. He was discharged on April 26, 1865.
