Lige W. is a brother of my G-Grandfather, Rufus B. Parker. Served in 15th Mississippi Infantry, Company A, Long Creek Rifles. Died in Attala Co., MS, date unknown. Buried in North Union Cemetery, Attala Co., MS.

Oliver C. is a brother of my G-Grandfather, Rufus B. Parker. Served in 15th Mississippi Infantry, Company A, Long Creek Rifles. Died in Attala Co., MS, 20 Nov 1898. Buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Attala Co., MS.

Rufus B. Parker is my Great-Grandfather. Served in 15th Mississippi Infantry, Company A, Long Creek Rifles. Died in Hollandale, Washington Co., MS about 1903.

Brother of Robert Gray of the same Co and Regiment, joined with Robert 06 May 1861. Born in 1833 in Georgia, moved with family to Mississippi betweem 1841-1850.

My G Grandfather, Robert Gray, (b)14 May 1840, (d) 27 Apr 1917, joined Co B, August 21, 1861, surrendered at Durham Station, NC in April, 1865.

Wounded at Shiloh, hospitalized and later sent home to recover. Upon his recuperation he returned to his unit. There is a letter from the post surgeon at the hospital at Vaiden, Mississippi, requesting that W. A. be transerferred to that facility as a steward. The letter states he was no longer combat qualified 'due to a gunshot wound received at the Battle of Shiloh.' The letter goes on to say, 'Please have this request brought to the attention of Lt Gen'l Pemberton.' It is signed 'T. J. Taliaferro, Post Surgeon.' While serving in the hospital W.A. became interested in medicine and after the war attended Dartmouth College and became a medical doctor. He served in the Confederate States Army from May 1861 (when the unit was still called the 15th Reg't, Mississippi Volunteers) until August 1864.

David William Eakin was my Great Grandfather. He was from Attala County, Mississippi. Enlisted Jan 19,1863 until paroled May 13, 1865 at Charlotte,Nc. He Fought in the last Battle at Bentonville, Nc., was surrendered by Johnston at Bennett Farm Durham, Nc. He Is Buried in Edgefield Cemetery, McCool, Attala County, Mississippi.

Born July 4, 1840 in Choctaw, Mississippi and died September 26, 1864 His headstone reads "Co.D 15 Miss Inf CSA" , buried in Mount Zion cemetery in Webster County Possibly a member of Wigfall Rifles Married to Elvenie Tyson

Not a relative, but he is in the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, CA. Died 11 Jan 1874. Has nice tombstone upon which I placed a metal tag denoting his war service. I am specialist of Civil War vets in this cemetery.

Buried at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, SE of Duck Hill, Mississippi. My great great grandfather: my father's mother's, mother's father. My great uncle, Grover 'Mike' Wood, remembered the old man dying at his home when Mike was just a boy. He had gone to live with his daughter's family after surviving his third wife. He remembered the wagon trip with the body to the cemtery and the burial in December. Later, as a adult, and a proud veteran of the Burma Hump, Mike made sure his grandfather got a bronze grave marker with his service record and on more than one occasion before his own death took me out to the cemetery to make sure I 'got it', though he never said that. I got it, Mike! And, thanks.

John was born in Union, Union County, North Carolina in 1819. The 1860 census finds him at age 42 in Louisville, Winston County, Miss. He is a wealthy planter and formed his own company. Capt. Gage's Co. [Whitfield Guards] He has 2 cards in this file. This company was disbanded, and he joined the 15th Miss. Infantry as Captain of Co G. He has 7 cards in this archival file. He skirmished in Kentucky at Laurel Bridge, Wildcat Mountain and Mill Springs. In 1862 saw action at Shiloh, Tenn. Baton Rouge, La., and Corinth, Miss. 1863 Vicksburg, Miss. Champion Hill & Jackson, Miss. 1864 Meridian, Miss and Atlanta Campaign. Carolina Campaign with last fight at Bentonville, SC. He died in 1886 in Hill County, Texas. He was the parental grandfather of husband of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.

John was 28 Years old. He enlisted at Brookhaven, Mississippi on 17 August 1862 sworn in by Major Clark. 16 April 1863 he is absent on detached duty. he survived the war and died 2 April 1910 in Grenada County Mississippi. John married my 2nd cousin 4x removed Martha Ely.

Captured at Battle of Mill Springs, paroled, captured again at the Battle of Nashville. His brother Frank Moore was killed at the Battle of Franklin.

John was born in Grenada Co. Mississippi on 14 Jan 1842. He enlisted at Corinth, Miss. on 16 Jul 1861 by Col Aldridge for 12 months. He has 13 cards in his archival file. He was engaged in a couple of minor skirmishes before his 1st major engagement at Fishing Springs Ky on 19 Jan 1862. This battle is referred to as [ Logan's Crossroads and Mill Springs. His obit states he was wounded and eventually lost an arm and taken as POW. Sent to Camp Chase and transferred to Johnson Island. He was exchanged 25 Aug 1862. He died 23 Nov 1912 and is buried at the Odd Fellows / Confederate Cemetary at Grenada, Mississippi. We are related thru marriage.

John, along with six of his brothers, served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. John was a private in Company I, 15th MS Infantry, 'Choctaw Guards/Rangers'. John was in battles at Vicksburg, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Nashville, and Franklin, TN. He was wounded in Franklin in 1864, captured in Nashville and taken prisoner and retained for six months at Camp Douglas, Illinois, from which he was paroled on June 17, 1865. Camp Douglas, on the shore of Lake Michigan at Chicago, flooded each time it rained. It was a miserable place and many prisoners died there. His brother Henry B. was killed in action about 1865.

This was my Great Great Grad Father brother. He was tranfered to the 31st Me inf Reg and was shot in the head at Franklin,Tn battle. Recoverd and was with Johnson when he surrendered in N.C.

James L. Power and his brother William Hooker power enlisted with their cousin William Thomas Power in 1861. All three were wounded in different engagements. William Hooker wounded at Shiloh, James at Resaca GA, and William Thomas at an unknown engagement. All three survived the war. James was the only one of the three to remain and be paroled near Bentonville NC in 1865.

Pow camp chase

William J. Avent was a Sergeant in Captain Foard's K Company of the 15th Mississippi Regiment. In the Battle of Shiloh a spent shell struck him in the neck and he was left dead on the battlefield as the company was rapidly advancing. Afterwards as the company had gained its objective and was resting and uniting, he came running up to take his place much to the delight of his comrades.

Daniel Ayer fought with the 15th until the capitulation of Vicksburg and then was transferred to the 20th Mississippi

Enlisted in Co. K, 15th Miss. Inf. on Aug. 18, 1861 Corinth, Miss. at age 16 by Capt. T.B. Foard for period of 12 months. Discharged from this assignment on April 16, 1862 by act of Congress. On May 12, 1863 enlisted in Co. B, Perrin's Battalion State Cavalry at Lodi, Miss. by Capt. Allen, for 12 months. Subsequently transferred to Co. G, 5th Miss. Cav. on/about Oct. 6, 1863 at Meridian, Miss. for duration of the war. Discharged 4/26/65.

John O Quinn, my gg-Uncle, was born 12 Jan 1832 and died 18 Jan 1864. He was buried in the Old Shady Grove Cemetery in Webster Co., Mississippi. His birth and death information as well as his rank are engraved on his white marble military headstone. John's brothers David N Quinn and Charles J Quinn are also buried in this cemetery

The battle flag for his unit (Oktibbeha Plow Boys) is located in Pioneer Village at Lagoon in Farmington, Utah. Company K was disbanded within a year of being formed due to an outbreak of measles. William Quinn later joined Wirt Adams cavalry regiment as a private and remained with the cavalry until the end of the war.
