Served as a supply route runner, was taken POW numerous times and was laid to rest in what was Prospect, TX May 25th 1906.

One of 4 Wilson brothers that fought for the 23rd. One was recognized for his actions at Bethesda Church.

I believe William was captured at Fort Donalson, but no data after that time. He is buried in Alcorn County, Salem Cemetery.

This was my great grandfather. He was the son of Philip Hamman and grandson of Philip Hamman of the Rev. war and Indian fighter at Pt. Pleasent. He moved to Texas after the war and is buried at Maud, Bowie Co., Texas having died in 1912.

This is my great-great uncle. he was the son of Philip Hamman of Alcorn Co., Mississippi, living near Hightown. He escaped capture on Feb 16, 1862 and returned home, and was murdered in April. He is buried in the Union Cem. near Hightown, Alcorn Co., Mississippi.His grandfather was Philip Hamman, known as The Saviour of the Greenbrier in West Virginia history and a soldier in the battle of Pt. Pleasent in 1774.

Enrolled at 16 in '61; wounded at Seven Pines 5/31/62; captured near Holly Springs by Federal forces; released on amnesty oath on 2/20/64.

Died as a Prisoner of War during the Civil War. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri in Section 67, site 010101. John was enlisted in the 23rd Mississippi Regiment, Co. E. He was also a Prisoner of War possibly he was at Gratiot Street Prison, St. Louis, Missouri since Jefferson Barracks is where he was buried. But, have found no source to prove this.

1841-1862 Enlisted 19 Sept 1861 at Iuka. Captured at Fort Donelson, died of pneumonia 15 Sept 1862, while imprisoned in Camp Douglas in Chicago

A.C. Vandiver joined civil war in 1861 in Iuka Miss.1861 with his younger brother Elisha H. both in the 23rd Miss . Inf. Company E. ,Before or during the battle of FT. Donnellson . A.C. had an arm shot off, as he was sent home he returned . He rejoined the 23rd Miss. and was elected 1st Lieutenant of his Company, he fought and went home on furlough, he was then taken prisoner and released . He survived the war and became a preacher of Tippah Co. Miss. fro 44 years, he died in 1915

Elisha H. Vandiver joined C.S.A. in 1861 in Iuka Miss. with older brother, Andrew C. both in 23rd Miss. E. Company. He was taken prisoner at Ft. Donnellson , shipped to Ft. Douglas ILL. Ohio 6 mo. later released with 23rd Regiment. He was died from wounds In Brandon Miss. 1863.There he is buried.

This is my GG Grandfather (Maternal) He was captured Tishomingo Co.,MS, June 25, 1863. Received July 12, 1863 Military Prison, Alton, Illinois and transferred to Fort Delaware April 4, 1864.

Jasper Newton Moore is buried at Booneville Cemetery, Booneville, Mississippi.

First Sergeant James Henry 'Doc' Roberts (1838? - 1893), 23rd Mississippi Infantry, Company F 'Blackland Gideonites.' Buried Macedonia Cemetery, San Augustine County, Texas.

Robert Holman Weir, a son of Charles B. and Margaret [née Gaston] Weir, was born on June 4th 1828 in Blount County, Alabama. His mother was a descendant of two well known Revolutionary war families; Gaston & McClure of South Carolina. At the beginning of the Civil War, Robert H. Weir enlisted as a Private in Co. F, 23rd Regiment Mississippi Infantry and was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant in 1862; later he rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Robert was twice married: first to Miss Nancy Faith Thompson (1835-1858) with whom he had four children. After Nancy died he married Mrs. Lucy Dearing Wall, a widow of Pvt. John McClellan Wall; with one son. Robert and Lucy would later have four children. They made their home in Newton County, Mississippi; where Robert departed this life on November 30th 1912 in the 84th year of his age. He was laid to rest in Poplar Springs Baptist Churchyard, Newton County, Mississippi.

1816-1863 Enlisted at Iuka on 24 Aug 1861. Died of typhoid fever while being held as a POW in Alton Ill.

Ezra Cobb died 10 November 1921 and is buried at New Harmony Cemetery, Union County, MS.

2nd Lt. James Walker McCraw,23rd Mississippi Infantry Co. I 'The Plentitude Invincibles' Born 1829, Rutherford NC, Died 1892, Blue Springs, Union County, Mississippi. Buried at Fairfield Cem.MS. Musterd into service 22, Aug. 1861 Pontotoc Mississippi, Captured at Fort Donaldson, Sent to camp Douglas for seven months until exchanged at Vicksberg. Captured again at battle of Nashville 15, Dec. 1864 spent the rest of the war at Johnsons Island ohio.
