Allen was captured at Vicksburg. We do not know where he was sent nor when he was released. My cousin has copies of his Confederate Pension slips.

Osborne Franks died July 9, 1864 in a civil war hospital established in the old Brownwood Academy in LaGrange, GA. He is buried in grave # 13, Stonewall Confederate Cemetery, in LaGrange. He was the brother of my great grandfather Charles Allen Franks.

Died at Battle of Franklin, Tennessee 30 November 1864. S.B. Miears was born 09 December 1826 in Alabama. He married Lou Emily Burke 09 October 1845. Parents were John Porter Miears and wife Martha Ann.

Orr's Guards. Died of Disease at home in Pontotoc 4-24-1864.

Captured @ Big Black River (Canton) 12-13-1863. Paroled after the war on 5-22-1865. This unit fought mostly in the Jackson, Ms area.

Captured @ Champion's Hill. Paroled @ Camp Morton & died at home from disease 5-2-1864. All Owen brothers were from Pontotoc & originally joined 6th BN Miss Inf (J.A. Orr).

Possibly buried with wife (Prudence 'Prudie' Polk) in McMinnimen Cemtery, Murray Coounty, OK (cemetery in very bad shape) death is 'prob' before 1898.

Upon enlisting in Choctaw County with the 6th (Orr’s) Battalion Mississippi Infantry, soon redesignated as the 31st Mississippi Infantry, Henry Clay Avent was elected 1st Lieutenant in B Company on February 28, 1862. Four months later on June 25th, 1862, he was promoted to Captain of his company. On April 4, 1863, he resigned his captaincy.

Tilman was wounded at the Battle of Peachtree Creek, north of Atlanta, Georgia. He was shot on the right side. He later was transferred to Co. K, 8th Mississippi Cavalry. He died in 1913 and is buried at North Union Cemetery, Bellefountain, Mississippi.

Military record from State Archives in Jackson, MS states that James D. Fox enlisted on Sept. 19, 1863, Choctaw Co. Miss. in Co. B 31 Regt. Mississippi Vols. (Infantry) by Maj. Parker for 3 yrs or the war. Served as Pvt. (Probably enlisted from the Fame Community and Sarah and the children went to Bankston to be with her parents Joseph Henderson & Frances Williams, who had moved from Oktibbeha Co before 1860.) Fell out sick on retreat from Carrolton, Miss. and was taken home by Capt. Trumbo Curndy State Troop. Issued 1 S. rifle, 1 cart. box, 1 bayonet, strap belt, 36 cart. & 45 caps. Appears on Co. muster rolls: Aug. 31, 1864 to Feb 29, 1865. Last paid by Major Jones to March 1, 1864. Absent without leave since Jan. 18, 1865

David Nicholson Quinn was my gg-grandfather and was buried in the Old Shady Grove Cemetery in Webster Co., Mississippi. His two brothers, John O Quinn and Charles J Quinn [who were also in the Civil War] and a sister, Melvina E Quinn Crumby, were also buried there.

A little update on the posting from two years ago...HBS was captured at Champion Hill, MS and died the day he was paroled from Fort Delaware, July 4, 1863. Burial unknown.

Jonathan was born 11 Apr 1847 in the Eastern Division of Chickasaw Co. Miss. He enlisted as Pvt on 1 Apr 1862 at age 15. He Served in the Brigade commanded by Rust, L. Herbert and Featherston. Fought at Vicksburg, Baton Rouge, Jackson, Atlanta Campaign and with Hood in the Winter Campaign in Tennessee. He died 11 Dec 1930 at Admore, Carter Co. Oklahoma and buried in that town's Roise Hill cemetery.

He's buried in grave 741 at the Camp Chase prisoner of war camp in COlumbus, OH.

William Madison Jobe as captured at Columbia, Tennessee during the retreat from the Battle of Nashville. The 31st Mississippi was part of the force led by Waltham to hold back the federal troops while the confederate army retreated to Mississippi. As a prisoner, Jobe was sent to Camp Chase, a POW camp in Columbus, Ohio. There he died of pneumonia on April 17, 1865.

Lem Lindsey, J T Mackey, and William Jobe were first cousins and all joined F Company on May 2, 1862. Their mothers were sisters: Henrietta Harder Lindsey, Zilphy Harder Mackey Rice, and Mary Harder Jobe.

William M. Faulkner is my great-great grandfather. He enlisted in Co. H on March 13, 1862, at Persimmon Springs, MS. He signed up for 3 years or until the end of the war. On November 23, 1862, he was at the hospital on the Ole Miss campus in Oxford, MS. He served under Col. J. A. Orr.

This is my great-grandfather, W.A. Henley. He is buried at Sapa Cemetery in Eupora, MS. He was born in Choctaw County around 1840.

Darious joined Orr's Battalion Miss. Vols at Percimon Springs Miss. on 13 March 1862. This became Co H 31st Regt. Miss. Infanry. He has 15 cards in his file and they show that he was sick most of the war, having been left in the hospital twice by surgeons certificate.

J.C. Leopard died May 16, 1862 in Saltillo Mississippi. The cause of death was measles. He enlisted on March 13, 1862 in Persimmon Springs Mississippi under Col. J.A. Orr.

Enlisted 18 Mar 1862 at P. Springs, MS by COL Orr. Was appointed from ranks Sept 1863 to 4th Corporal. Was wounded at Peach Tree Creek near Atlanta on 20 July 1864.

Rumor has it that Thomas was wounded & lay with the dead for 8 days before he was discovered still alive. How/Where would this be proven/disproven?

Tilman and his brother William T. Ross joined the 31st Infantry Regiment Volunteers on March 13, 1862. Tilman was severely wounded in the battle of Baton Rouge, LA on August 5, 1862 (camped on Comite River). It appears that he was recruited by Col. J.A. Orr and paid by Major Cargill. After he recovered (we know he lost sight in one eye) he was transferred (with William T. Ross) to D company, 8th Regiment Cavalry until the end of the war. We believe this happened towards the end of 1863. After the war he married Nancy Emiline Scott. They had 11 children and lived in Choctaw County MS along with his father, David Ross who was born in Laurens County, SC 1800. Tilman and family moved to Coe, LA. He died in 1904 and is buried at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery near Church Point, LA. He is my great grandfather.

Born 16 Apr 1835 in Philadelphia, the son of Oliver Abbott Shaw and Ann Aylette Brooke Shaw. Died May 1909 in Carrollton, Miss. Enlisted 11th Regiment, Co. K, Carroll County, Miss. Transfered to 31st Miss Inf, Co. I, Carroll County, Miss as a Sgt. in 1862 where his brother in law, Capt. James Drane served. By the end of the war, Shaw was a Sgt. Major. The 1860 census lists his profession as 'lawyer.' In 1880, 'clerk in store.' He was present at the unveiling of the Confederate monument in Carrollton, Miss. in 1905 with members of the 11th Miss. Infantry. It is possible that Hobart was wounded and out of action for several months following the battle of Peachtree Creek, as I cannot find pay records for him during that time. He returned to action later that year, and pay records resumed.

Looking for any information on John 'Bully' Caldwell born approx. 1815 in South Carolina and moved to Miss. between 1848 & 1855. Served in the Miss. 31st Infantry Company K.

Enlisted as a Private on 12 May 1861 at the age of 27. Died on 4 February 1863.

Enlisted as a Private on 19 March 1862 at the age of 29. Died at home in May 1864 while on sick leave.
