Originally part of the 2nd Battalion Mississippi Infantry, which became the 48th Mississippi Infantry. Commissioned as an officer in Company B. Killed on 12 May 1864 at the Bloody Angle at Spotsylvania Court House, VA.

my gggrandfather; voluntered in 2nd miss inf bat from alabama. supposedly served under ap hill, johnston and beauregard. We know he fought at chancellorsville, gettsburg(round top), and battle of the wilderness. He was wounded at the wilderness. carried the miniball in his his back until death in oklahoma in 1938 at age 97., buried near ft. worth, tx.

Wounded at Williamsburg,Virginia.Paroled at Appomattox,Virginia on April9,1865. Younger brother of James Jefferson,William A.,and John William Milford,who all served in Georgia Regiments.

George Shedd began his service with Company C., 2nd Battalion Mississippi State troops. The battalion was reorganized as the 48th Mississippi Infantry.

need info about my husbands gggrandfather do not know where he was born or where he died though we know he supposedly died 7/1872. no idea where he lived after war,cant find record of mother or father,had 2 children by mandy jane long brewer.cant find record of their marriage or where they lived. would like to have any records of war years or any other info. family comes from Yalobusha county,mississippi. thanks

Jams Perry Cohea @ age 16 left home without the knowledge of his family on January 16, 1863, walked the 12 miles to Graysport Landing, Miss, and enlisted with a Major Lee of the 48th Miss that was home on leave to recruit troops. He traveled the distance to Virginia where the unit was in winter quarters. He fought at Chancellorsville, Mine Run Campaign, Wilderness, Spotsyvania, and Petersburg where he was killed in action Sept. 19, 1864 and is buried with his Miss. battle brothers in Blanchard Cemetery.

Walked home from Appomattox Courthouse back to Mississippi in 1865.

H- Vicksburg Volunteers, 2nd Mississippi Battalion, April 9, 1862. Admitted to Camp Winder, General Hospital, Richmond, Virgina with Rubeola 13 June 1862 Died 17 June 1862, Camp Winder, General Hospital, Richmond, Virgina Buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Soldiers Section O Lot: 157,Richmond, Virginia

born 06-15-1845, died 09-26-1929, enlisted 1864, discharged 04-12-1865, buried in Magnolia Gardens addition 2, plot 188, downtown Lucedale, Ms.

Taken prisoner early 1865 at Petersburg, sent to Hart's Island prision and released in Jul 1865. No info on him after this.
