4th New York Light Artillery

James Callehan died at Austin 25 March 1870 he was a Brevet Major at death of the 4 th Cav. but served in the civil war as second and then 1st lieutenant. Born in New York but family settling in Ohio. His younger brother Christopher Callahan noted in this database to have died from meningitis at Ft Corcoran in 1864. Enlisted, September 9, 1862, at New York; mustered in as private, September 10, 1862, to serve three years; Fought in many battles, including the battle of Gettysburg. Transferred to Fifteenth Battery, December 12, 1863. Married to the sister of David and Thomas Jaques, members of the same unit. Buried in Greenwood cemetery, Brooklyn NY.

JAQUES, DAVID.—Age, 25 years. Enlisted, August 20, .1861, at New York, along with his brother, Thomas; mustered in as private, September 4, 1861, to serve three years; promoted corporal in October, 1861; sergeant, January 1, 1863; transferred to Co. L, First Engineers, December 12, 1863.Took part in many battles, including the battle of Gettysburg. Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Brooklyn NY.

JAQUES, THOMAS.—Age, 20 years. Enlisted, August 20,1861, at New York, along with his brother, David; mustered in as private, September 4, 1861, to serve three years; transferred to Co. L, First Engineers, December 12, 1863. Took part in many battles, including the battle of Gettysburg. Buried in Evergreen cemetery, Brooklyn NY.
