An original Civil War letter from Hogan at New Bern, NC , April 1864 delivered to his sister by comrade Pat Bellen, re life as a 'wild roving Yankee Dragoon', tells of 'narrow escapes' amid the 'Tar & Turpentine' in NC, - the Rebs have just taken Plymouth 'a pretty little place on the Roanoke River'- detached at HQ, he escaped- the boys fled and burned Little Washington and 'the rebs be damned amid the smoking ruins'; please forward the letter to his 'very very intimate friend' - he was an Irish immigrant and is buried at Leamington, Ontario, Canada.” Wife's name was Jane Armstrong.
