Enlisted 21 May 1861 at Utica, NY, Mustered out 28 May 1863 at Utica, NY. Wounded in left ankle at the Battle of Fredericksburg, 12/13/1862 which permanently disabled him. Applied for & received disability pension. After his death in 1889, his wife Fannie received a widow's pension based on his service.

Born in Baden, Germany and arrived in the US with his family as a child. Lived in Monroe County NY as noted in the US 1860 Census. Enlisted in 1861. Filed for a US pension in August 1890 under claim number 797069. He died in 1912 and his widow, Harriet (also called Hattie) continued collecting a pension up to her death in 1939 in Monroe County, township of Perinton. Charles and his wife are burried in the South Perinton Cemetery in Monroe County.
