126th New York Infantry

I am reseting a old pioneer cemetery in the Black Hills of South Dakota and doing a history backround on all that are buried there.

Enlisted Co. D, 126th NY Vol Inf Regiment Aug 9 1862. Wounded during the fight at Maryland Heights (Harper's Ferry) Sep 13 1862. Died of wounds in US Army General Hospital No. 1, Annapolis, MD on Oct 26, 1862

My 2nd great-granduncle. Born in Naples, NY Oct 1836, wounded at Gettysburg, died 1928 in Cottage Grove, Oregon. I have pictures & a fairly complete history.

Born 24 Feb, 1846. He was captured at Harper's Ferry Sept. 15, 1862 and was exchanged with his regiment Nov 23, 1862. Discharged for disability in June,1863. Reenlisted in Sept.4, 1864 in the 6th N.Y. Cavalry. He was wounded while in the 6th and was discharged in June, 1865

I believe he was wounded in the leg at Gettysburg, during Picket's charge. Mr. Huffman was my great grandfather. He was born March 10, 1841 in Steuben County, New York and died in Blue Rapids, Kansas June 10, 1923.

Alonzo is buried in Kent County, Michigan. His gravestone reads: Alonzo K. Davis son of A. & F. Davis died Mar. 16 1869 aged 26 yrs. 8 mos. 23 days Co. K 126th N.Y. Inf. Alonzo's brother George was in the NY 100th, Company H.

Enlisted August 1862. Capture at Harper's Ferry, VA., 11 Sept 1862 and exchanged 23 November, 1862. He was slightly wounded at Gettysburg. Killed in action 6 May,1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness. In the New York Clerks Registry of Men who served in the Civil War it was written 'He was left behind breathing, and never heard from again.'

Says he was in K and A companies at one time or another.

Isaac Adams Seamans enlisted in the 126th N.Y. Infantry, Co. K., on August 20, 1862 at Geneva, N.Y. He received a disability discharge on April 27, 1864. Because he was a lawyer, he often served as regimental judge advocate. During the war, Isaac received two wounds, one to the head and one to the hip. He married Tryphena E. Hartwell on July 27, 1874 and died on July 4, 1905 in Naples, N.Y.

William Seamans, brother of Isaac Adams Seamans, enlisted in the 126th N.Y. Infantry, Co., K on March 31, 1864 at Naples, N.Y. He was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness which resulted in the amputation of his left arm. He was transferred to Company B on December 25, 1864 and discharged for disability on February 27, 1865. William died July 8, 1888 and is buried in Rose Ridge Cemetery in Naples, N.Y.
