Charles L. Hennigar was from Sag Harbor, NY and enlisted at Smithtown. His occupation on muster record was photographer and he worked at this trade untill 1888, after which he was admitted to the Soldiers & Sailors Home, Bath, NY. He died there in 1897 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Sag Harbor, New York.

After the War he served as Brooklyn City Auditor and Building Commissioner and was active in the GAR. He also had a sucessful construction business located near city hall in Brooklyn.
