Grandfather John Baptist Widmer enlisted Feb. 24, 1864, at Huron County Ohio. age 22. He was born in Oberrohrdorf, Switzerland. He may have been paid to take another man's place. After the war, he and his family migrated to the Texas panhandle. He died in Texas on Sept. 20, 1905.
