11th Pennsylvania Infantry

Frantz, born 1824 in Wurttemberg, Germany. Died 08 May 1872 of TB contracted in Civil War. Also spelled Baier, Beare, Bear. Substitute for James Parker, originally was in 113th Volunteers, 12 Regt PA Cavalry. Transferred to 11th Infantry 11 August, 1865. Served in Petersbug campaign, including Battle of Hatcher's Run. Here he was carried from the skirmish line too sick to continue. Last note from pension records filed by his widow to secure his pension.

3rd great-grandfather, born 1834 in Pennsylvania and died 1914 in Pennsylvania.

He was my Grandfathers Stept Dad. Born 1846. died 1931 I have a picture of his gave stone. He is in Armagh Presbyterian Cemetery

Enlisted as a Private on 15 February 1864. Captured and confined at Salisbury Prison. Died as a prisoner on 14 February 1865 at Salisbury, NC.

Enlisted as a Private on 27 November 1861. Wounded on 1 July 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. Wounded at the Wilderness, VA on 5 May 1864. Mustered out on 1 July 1865 at Harrisburg, PA. (Click homepage for image)

Mortally wounded at 2nd Manassas (Chinn Ridge)on August 30, 1862. Died Septmber 20, 1862, Washington D.C. Buried in Harrold's Cemetery, Greensburg, PA. Inscription on tombstone: 'Through stormy night and danger's path, Amid our country's gloom, This soldier of a loyal band, Was marching to the tomb.'

sallie ann was the mascot for the 11th pa from camp wayne to hatchers run where she was shot and killed on feb. 5th 1865
