Charles is my great grandfather. he won the Medal of Honor for his actions at Spotsylvania Courthouse -- May 12, 1864.

Enlisted in July of 1861. Was in the same unit (Co. B, 99th PA infantry) as his son Davis, who was wounded at the Wilderness, and killed at Boydton Plank Rd. on October 27, 1864. Malchijah was either killed at Spotsylvania Court House (on May 12, 1864), or captured there, and taken to Andersonville. His youngest daughter's guardian (who filled out the pension application) stated on the pension application that Malchijah was captured, sent to Andersonville, and then died after being transferred to Savannah on Sep. 8, 1864. Malchijah and three of his sons (Davis (see above), Abel (Co E, 30th PA infantry), and Joseph (Co. A, 3rd PA Heavy Artillery)) died in the war. Only his son John (also Co. A, 3rd PA Heavy Artillery), my ggg grandfather, survived the war.

Christopher Schmidt was killed May 6, 1864 at the battle of Wilderness.

AM LOOKING FOR MY GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER--THINK HE WAS WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA 99TH VOLUNTEERS-COMPANY--HIS ORIGINAL NAME WAS ALEXANDER MCLEAN--BORN IN IRELAND-I THINK HE WAS MARRIED TWICE TO A MUCMALLEN OR SIMILAR NAME--THEN LATER MARRIED A ELIZABETH STEWART--HE WAS A LABORER-I AM NOT SURE WHAT PART OF PENNSYLVANIA HE CAME FROM--HE SETTLED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY ILL-AND IS BURIED AT BRUSH CREEK CEMETARY-I THINK HIS SON MY GREAT GRANDFATHER WAS JOHN==THE RUMOR I HAVE HEARD IS WHEN HE WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE SERVICE THEY MISSPELLED HIS NAME TO MCCLAIN--AND HE KEPT THAT NAME==ANY INFO I WOULD APPRECIATE--THANKS RAY YOUNG

George was the husband of Delilah Taylor, sister of my great-great grandfather, George Washington Taylor, Co. C, 3rd PA Inf.
