101st Pennsylvania Infantry

He is my great,great,great,great uncle and founding Colonel of the 101st. I am a member of the 101st Pa Vol Infantry reenactment group please check out the website.

Enlisted as a Private in Co. A, 101st PA Inf. on Aug. 31, 1864 & mustered out at New Bern, N.C. on June 25, 1865. He was in the PA. State Militia in the early years of the war.

Isaac was b. 31 Oct.,1837, Juniata Co., PA, a son of James & Mary (Durst) Saylor and d. 7 Jan., 1906, Pleasant View, Juniata Co., PA. He m. Lila Angeline Schreffler 31 Mar., 1861, They had 5 children.

Birth: Jun. 21, 1819 Union County Pennsylvania, USA Death: Aug. 1, 1891 Union County Pennsylvania, USA Most of the 101st was captured in action in 1865, with the exception of those on detached duty (~ one company+). The unit was reconstructed around these surviving members. Adam Getz served with the reconstructed Co. C from 14 Mar 1865-25 Jun 1865 in the District of New Berne, Dept. of North Carolina

Private Pearsall enlisted on September 6, 1861. He died of wounds sustained in Plymouth, North Carolina on February 14, 1864.

Henry is buried at New Oxford, Adams County, PA. His marker says he was a Civil War corporal in Co E, 101st Regiment, PA Vol. Civil War record shows that he enlisted on 2/24/1865 as a Corporal in Company E, 101st Infantry Regiment, and mustered out on 6/25/1865 at New Berne, North Carolina. This Regiment was active in Virgina (Yorktown, Williamsburg, Fair Oaks) and North Carolina. Our Henry was in one of eight new companies which were raised in 1865. The orginal regiment was captured at the battle of Plymouth, NC, in 1864, and the enlisted men were imprisoned at Andersonville until the summer 1865; half of those died. Some did escape or were exchanged, and those men who were on leave or absent at the time the regiment was taken, kept up the regimental organization at Roanoke Island, NC. This is the group that Henry joined, although the new Companies were never incorporated with the existing forces.

muster into service at Harrisburg, Pa Dec 18, 1861. he was age 22, he was discharged 3 months later. remarks say 'discharged for disability'

John Defibaugh was born in Bedford, PA. When he enlisted in the Civil War he was residing in Morgan Co., Ohio. He was captured at Plymouth, NC. He is listed as a prisoner in Andersonville Confederate prison. He died there on August 5th or 15th of 1864 leaving behind five children orphaned as his wife Sarah E.(Halliwell) Defibaugh predeceased him in 1859. The children George H., John H., Isaac H., Joseph T (*) and Anne Defibaugh were taken as wards by Elijah Hallowell. John is listed as dying from a bleeding disease know as 'Anasarca'. Enlisted as a Musician on 28 December 1861 at the age of 16. Received a disability discharge on 7 November 1862.

My 4x Great Grandfather. From Adams Co, PA. Served Oct 16, 1862 - 28 Jul 1863 in the 165th PA engaging in operations in coastal Virginia. Enlisted once more into C Co, 101st PA on 27 Feb 1865 and garrisoned Roanoke Island. Discharged out of New Bern, NC June 25th 1865. His Brother in Law Peter H Myers and uncle Obadiah Jacobs were also in the 101st PA during the same period.
