118th Pennsylvania Infantry

After serving in the 23rd PV, James GWYN was appointed Lt Col in the new 118th PV (Corn Exchange Regiment)in Aug 1862. He succeeded Col Provest as CO at Sheppardstown Ford Sept 1862. Promoted to Col. Served as 118th CO until wounded @ the Wilderness (May 1864). Promoted to Bvt Brig Gen; served in 5th Corps @ Petersburg to Five Forks. Wounded again. Promoted to Bvt Maj Gen. He took CSA surrender at Appomattox. In all, served in 28 Battles or engagements.

Charles enlisted as a private at the age of 58 or 59. He fought for the first time at the battle of Shepherdstown Wounded at Shepherdstown, W. Va., September 20, 1862; He recovered and returned to the army in 1864. He was killed at the battle for Weldon railroad during the siege of Petersburg, October 1, 1864; burial record, died October 18. 1864; buried in Poplar Grove National Cemetery, Petersburg, Va., div. C, sec. F, grave, 17

Robert M. Dawson was my great-great grandfather. He enlisted August 23, 1864 and was discharged May 27, 1865 at Portsmouth, VA

Wounded at Fredericksburg, Va., December 13, 1862; discharged by General Order, June 6, 1865. I would like to know if he was returned to active duty before being discharged.

Previously served in Spear's Independent Company, Pennsylvania Militia Infantry (Philadelphia City Police) from 17 June 1863 until 21 July 1863. Enlisted in as a Private on 12 August 1863. Mustered out on 1 June 1865 at Washington, DC.

Enlisted as a Private on 21 August 1862. Killed on 20 September 1862 at Shepherdstown, WV.
