William Hall was from Crawford Co., PA although he may have actually resided across the border in Ashtabula Co, Ohio (near Andover). He served several tours in the Civil War, initially joining the 169th PA (Co K) when it was organized in Oct 1862 until it mustered out in July 1863. He then joined the Volunteer Infantry of the 211th PA when it was formed in Sept 1864. Private Hall made the ultimate sacrifice during his service in this unit when he fell mortally wounded on April 2, 1865, succumbing to his wounds on July 4, 1864 in at a hospital in Richmond, VA.

Reentered service on Sept 5, 1864 with the 211th. [Prior service with 111th Pennsylvania; sustained wounds August 9, 1862, Cedar Mtn., Va. and discharged]. Mustered out June 1865 at Alexandria, Virginia. at war's end. Died 1918 and buried in Busti, New York.

Conrad Shaffer was born in Lindheim, H-D Germany, in 1827 and settled in Cumberland, Maryland in 1847. Conrad worked as a stone mason on the C&O Canal and the local Rail Roads. He joined with coworkers from Westmorland County, PA and went to Pittsburgh to enlist on 9 September 1864 with Company ‘H’ of the 211th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Pvt. Conrad Shaffer was discharged by General Order on 5 June 1865. The 211th Pennsylvania Volunteers took part in siege operations against Petersburg and Richmond, Va. and the defenses of Bermuda Hundred, Va. They joined the Army of the Potomac before Petersburg in November 1864. They moved in support of Weldon Railroad Expedition December 1864 and Dabney's Mills, Hatcher's Run, February 5-7, 1865. They were at Fort Stedman on March 25 and joined the Appomattox Campaign March 28-April 9. They took part in the assault on and fall of Petersburg April 2 and joined the pursuit of General Robert E. Lee from April 3-9. From Nottaway Court House on April 20 they moved to City Point, and then to Alexandria April 20-28, and duty there till June. They marched in the Grand Review at Washington D.C. in May 23. The Unit was mustered out June 2, 1865. Conrad Shaffer returned to Cumberland and resumed his work as a stone mason. He died working in Braddock, Pennsylvania on 26 October 1886 and is buried at St. Luke’s Lutheran Cemetery in Cumberland, Maryland.

Jesse Luther was born 06/29/1836 in Westmorland County Pennsylvania. At 28 years of age, on 01/09/1864, Jesse enlisted in John Grahams Co 'I' of the 211th Pennsylvania Infantry Volunteers. He was discharged 02/06/1865 in Alexandria, Virginia.
