14th South Carolina Infantry

Abner Monroe Perrin was promoted to Brig.General of the 14th SC in September 1863.

John was born in Darlington Co SC he enlisted at Lightwood Springs near Columbia SC on 10 Aug 1861. Enlisted in Capt W.J. Carters Co for the war. He enlisted as a Pvt and was elected to 3rd Lieutenant & later appointed to 2nd Lieut. His Regiment fought at Seven Days battle thru to Cold Harbor, Gains Mill, 2nd Manassas and Shepardstown, He was wounded in the left leg on 3 May in the battle of Chancellorsville which led to its being amputated below the knee. He is sent home on wounded furlough and remained their at Timmonsville, Darlington Co. SC. He resigned his commission on 14 Apr 1864. He was then assigned to the local Invalid Corps. His archival file is well documented. Note to Researchers. Their is another individual in this unit named J H Andrews. Enlisted same place same time. He is a Pvt and died of typhoid fever in Richmond 5 Aug 1862.. One of his CMR's lists his rank as Lieut.. not true... John is the father in law of my 3rd cousin 4x removed.

Sidney was 26 years old and from Darlington Co. SC. He enlisted at Lightwood Knot Springs on 10 Aug 1861 in Capt. W J Carter's Co. [Lynch Creek Guards]. This became Co A 14th SC Infantry. He was elected 1st Sgt. Feb 1862 elected to 2nd Jr Lieut. and to full 2nd Lieut Feb 1863. In Oct 1862 he is is on home leave for wounds received in Battle. Returned to his unit and was Wounded on the 1 July 1863 at Gettysburg and died of his wounds on 8 July. In a twist of fate he was mistakenly buried with the dead at Gettysburg with a Conn. Yankee Regiment. He is distantly related to me by marriage.

James was born 18 Jan 1833 in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. He has 64 items in his archival file. 20 as CMR's and the remainder administrative documents. He enlisted as 2nd Lieut. 12 Aug. 1861 in Capt. A. P. West's Co. [Dearing Guards] Samuel McGowen's Brigade. Mustered 10 Sept 1861 at Camp Butler. He was wounded in his first fight on 1 Jan 1862 at Port Royal Ferry. On 31 Jan 1863 he is appointed to the rank of Captain. He fought in 20 major battles, assigned to Gen Cadmus Wilcox's Division, A.P. Hill's 3rd Corps. 14 Dec 1864 he is home on sick leave. Paroled at Appomattox Court House 9 April 1865. He was the father-in-law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed. He died 13 Sept 1896 in Monette, Edgefield Co. SC and buried in the Ridge Spring Cem. Ridge Spring, Saluda Co. SC.

JP Caldwell enlisted in 1861 and served through the war until surrendering at Appomattox. He was later a farmer in Laurens County, SC and served as Superintendent of the Confederate Soldiers Home in Columbia, SC

My great great grand father, Served with C co. 14th SC Infantry, wounded at Sharpsburg, wounded and let in the hands of the enemy Gettysburg July 1863, paroled and returned home at end of war.

Abner Perrin is cousin to the 5 YOUNG brothers in Co.G 14th SC. Abner Perrin Young is named after AMPerrin. He was promoted to Brig.General of the 14th SC.

Jesse Vandiver Gwin of Spartanburg, SC (1832 - 1905) served with the 14th South Carolina for the entire war. He received battlefield promotions from Private up to 1st Lieutenant. He was wounded and captured for a short time at Gettysburg. He moved his family to Calhoun Co., Alabama after the war. He is my gggrandfather.

William Baylis Parsons volunteered for the Confederate army on August 16, 1861 at the age of 18. He was part of Company E, South Carolina’s 14th Regiment, Gregg-McGowans Brigade, A.P. Hill’s Division, Stonewall Jackson’s Corps. He fought in 28 battles including Harper’s Ferry, Fredericksburg, Sharpsburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Chancellorsville, Deep Bottom, Second Manasses, and Spotsylvania at the 'Bloody Angle'. He was wounded 4 times, at Sharpsburg when a piece of shell hit his hand and at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863 he was wounded in the thigh. He was later captured and carried to David’s Island N.Y. and held prisoner for 2 months. He was wounded again at Orange courthouse and he was wounded a fourth time in 1864 at Deep Bottom, Virginia when a bullet went entirely through his shoulder. In the Battle of Wilderness, at great risk to his own life, he and his comrade, J. White Westmoreland, of Woodruff, SC saved the life of their Captain, H.P. Griffith, by carrying him in their arms off the field of battle. William Baylis Parsons died in 1934 at the age of 91 as the oldest Confederate veteran in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Died of wounds received in the Battle at Deep Bottom Virginia, He served with Company E, 14th Inf Reg. He was laid to rest in the Hollywood Confederate Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Section: Soldiers Section W Lot: 655

Henry D. Cason enlisted 9-1-1863 at Abbeville, S.C. He was a Private in Co. G 14th Regiment S.C. Infantry. He was in the hospital on several different occasions for bronchitis, and rubeola. He was killed in the Battle of Jones House, Petersburg, Virginia on September 30,1864.

Thomas is buried at Lower Long Cane ARP church cemetery. He has a Confederate Veterans headstone.

Robert Drennan is brother-inlaw to Abner Perrin Young, 14th SC Co.G

J D Ethridge enlisted in The Confederate States Army when he was 18 years old on Aug 17, 1861 in Abbeville County, SC. Company G, 14th Regiment, SC Volunteers. He was wounded when he was 19 years old in The Battle of Fredericksburg, VA., by a gun shot on the third day of battle Dec 13, 1862, which required amputation of his right leg. His leg was amputated by a surgeon in a battlefield hospital.

Thomas was in the 14th SC Regiment Company G, along with his brother in-law Samuel Oliver Young and Sam's 4 brothers as well as other relatives. He was wounded June 1862 during the battle at Gaines Mill, VA, and killed in action 6 Aug.1864 at the Battle of Petersburg, VA. (history of 14th SC Regiment)

William was shot June 1862 at the Battle of Gaines Mill, VA. He entered into hospital 29 june 1862 until his wounds healed. He then went home but returned to Co.G 14thSC until he was discharged due to poor health. William served with his Robinson and Young cousins.

John Anthony Weed served in 14th SC Regiment Co.G, along with his brothers Rueben Weed and Andrew William Wilson Weed, his 3 sisters husbands, brother-in-laws John H. Bickett, Robert Drennan and Abner Perrin Young and Abner's 4 brothers. John was killed in action July 1863 at the battle of Staunton, Va.

I believe A.B.Adams, my Great-Great Grandfather was in the battle of Gettysburg, where he was wounded and became a POW. On August 5, 1863 he died at David Island Civil War Prison Camp in Long Island Sound, N.Y. He is buried at Cypress Hills National Cemetery in Broooklyn, N.Y. If anyone has additional information about his life, I would appreciate receiveing it.
