My GGrandfather Frank Lee Sitton fought with Company B of the Palmetto Sharpshooters from June of 1861 to April of 1865 where his unit surrendered with Gen. Robert E Lee. His son, Frank Lee Sitton (Jr.) moved to Dillon, SC in the early 1900's where he became the first chief of police. Dillon County was established out of Marion County in 1910. He met Daisy Eloise McLean and they married, had three boys and three girls. One of the daughters, Peggy Jean Sitton, married Hobson Dewey Phillips, Jr. (of Marion, SC) in 1941 and I was born in Marion, SC on February 26 1942. Grandfather Sitton passed away in 1935 from bad health.

He served in both the *9th,Co. E “Darlington Sentinels” and the *5th,Co. M “Jenkins Regiment” ” Pacolet Guards” of the South Carolina Palmetto Sharpshooters. Sgt Blaney H. Johnson was killed in action at 2nd Bull Run.

Records are scarce but believe this is Willaim A. Howle of Darlington, Co. SC who joined Jenkins Regiment 1 Palmetto Sharp Shooters. I also find him in the 7th SC Infantry.

Found gravestone at Ebenezar Methodist in South Carolina. Gravestone slightly hard to read in sections. He could possibly have been in Co. E, and appears to be a C after palmetto's. Reads: V. V. R. Jeffcoat Co. F Palmetto's C Sharpshooters C.S.A.

John James Misskelley, born 1845 in York County, SC in 1845. Enlisted on August 15, 1863 in Yorkville, SC. Fought thru the rest of the war only missing July & August 1864 due to sickness. Paroled with the regiment at Appomattox.

Survived the war and returned to Spartanburg County, SC. 2nd great-grandmother's brother-in-law. Son of Henry Cantrell and Anna Smith.

Was with Co K when it was part of the 5th SC Inf. Fought with the unit all the way to the surrender at Appomattox, then walked back to Boiling Springs, SC barefooted. One of my GGGrandfathers.

Messer, as he was known, was my GGGrandfather. He was mortally wounded at the Battle of Wilderness May 6, 1864. He had 2 brothers that served in the 1st Palmetto SS as well, Thomas E & Bluford F.

Enlisted at Spartanburg. Was wounded twice but survived. He surrendered at Appomattox with his brother. Both are burried in Bethlehem Baptist Church in Roebuck, SC.

My email address is from the comedy 'Napoleon Dynamite'. My ancestor was 16 when he enlisted in 1861 and was wounded in the hand by shrapnel and captured at the battle of Antietam while acting as a skirmisher. His 3 middle fingers were amputated while in captivity Fortress Monroe. He was then exchanged in early 1863. He was discharged due to his loss of fingers on his shooting hand. He carried a Bowie knife and a six shooter in addition to a Springfield rifle. He was an excellent shot and actually killed 2 deer with one shot when they were standing side by side on a slight rise of ground.

MyGreat Great Grandfather. Shot in the head in the 7 days battle. Carried minnie ball in his head until death in 1907

Andrew H. Miller, was married to Elizabeth Jane Hatchett, A H Miller a member of the Palmetto Sharp Shooters, Company K, Jenkin's Regiment of the 5th SC Infantry, 'The Spartan Rifles', held the rank of PVT at his death. He died in 'Distributing Hospital No. 9', of Febris typhoid. CERTIFICATE NUMBER 1696

'Jack' was the brother of my gr gr grandfather and was a member of the Spartan Rifles from Spartanburg, S.C. He was the only one of five sons of Hiram White, Sr to survive the war. He migrated to Texas.

He was my gr gr grandfather and was from Spartanburg/Glenn Springs, SC. He and his brothers were members of the Spartan Rifles. He was severely wounded at Seven Pines, losing use of one arm at least temporarily, and resigned and went home. He reenlisted as a private in 1863 or early 1864. He was shot through the neck in an effort to retake Ft. Harrison during the siege of Petersburg in Sept of 1864. His remaining brother Jasper 'Jack' White was trying to take him home and John died and was buried at Dannville, Va. He was disinterred in the 1960s and re-interred in a CS cemetery in Richmond, Va. Wish I knew where his grave was.

He was the brother of my gr gr grandfather. Rufus was from Spartanburg, SC and along with his brothers was a member of the Spartan Rifles. He lost his right arm due to cannon fire at the Battle of Fayser's Farm, part of the Seven Days Battles in 1862. He died the next day. His last words were 'Tell my aged parents not to worry, for I am going to where sorrow is no more!'

He was the brother of my gr gr grandfather, from Spartanburg area, SC and was a member of the Spartan Rifles. He died of Dyptheria in 1862 and is buried in Hollywood Confederate cemetery in Richmond, VA.

Co K came from the 5th SC Inf and most of its members came to the PSS when it was organized. William fought through all the major engagements and surrendered at Appomattox. One of my GGGrandfathers.

Peter Williamson Summey was my great-grandfather and was from Anderson County, SC. He served under Jenkins. He fought and was wounded at Fair Oaks (7 Oaks) in Va. He was sent back to Columbia and traded for a Union prisioner. He wa born in NC in 1828 and died in SC in 1896.

Present at Campbell's Station, 16 November 1863. Present at Siege of Knoxville, 17 November - 4 December 1863. Present at Fort Sanders, 29 November 1863. Present at Bean's Station, 14 December 1863.
