Age: 22 Enlisted: Jan. 24, 1863 Mustered: June 15, 1863 Remarks: Pr 1 Ser June 7 65 fr 2 Ser: pr 2 Ser Feb 3 64. Along with their mother, the Hales left Tennessee after the war and settled in Texas.

Enrolled on the 16 Jan 1863 at Dandridge, TN for 3 yrs. Mustered out with Company 2 Aug 1865 at Nashville, TN. Description of Orval: 5 ft 8 in, fair complexion, dark hair, blue eyes.

'Goodspeed's History of Tennessee has some interesting facts about Christian which can be referenced. Christian's military file is also very interesting. During the Civil War, Christian actively assisted men of Greene County in getting to Union lines in order to join the Union cause. The Confederates discovered his activities and Christian was forced to leave home and he took this opportunity to join the Union Army himself. Somewhere near McMinnville he and most of his regiment were captured by Confederates and after being 'robbed and stripped of belongings by the Rebels' were sent to Loudon, Tennessee. From there Christian took the train to Bulls Gap. Christian rejoined his reorganized regiment in December of 1863 but because of recurring sickness was unable to be an effective element of the unit.' My Great Great Grandfather. Served from 1862 until Feb 1865 when he was transferred to the 3rd North Carolina Mounted Inf.

Looney served in the Union 4th TN Inf. Looney joined the Union Army at the Strawberry Plains exit in Knoxville, TN. He was captured in McMinnville TN and released by the confederates that is now known as the "War of the Rebellion". According to a affidavit filed by friend James E. Hopkins, during the march to Kingston TN, Looney had trouble with his leg and attacked with Typhoid Fever and became very sick from wading in the waters and snow. He was treated by Dr. Norwood at a private home owned by a girlfriend of Srgt.George W. Richards, while in Kingston TN. Looney recovered from the fever and marched with his unit to Mossier Mills and then onto Morristown TN. He remained wounded until his discharge in Nashville TN in 1865. He received an honorable discharge and pension, he owned and lived on the land handed down to his wife Martha Garland, from her grandfather Samuel Garland until his death that included the Garland Cemetery and Stoney Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
