Vanburen Coe enlisted in 7th Reg's TN Vols. Co A in Nashville, TN May 20, 1861 he was 20 yrs old. He died of disease in Huntersville,VA Sept.25,1861.

Enlisted in Smith Co, TN. Wounded in right knee at Cedar Mt., 9 Aug '62. Sent home to heal in Oct '62 - Mar '63. Back with 7th TN in Apr '63 through Petersburg, but listed mostly as hospital guard or ambulance driver, and absent from muster a few times due to wound in leg. Captured at Petersburg and sent to Point Lookout camp. Took oath of allegience there 17 June, 1865.

Robert was born 17 Sept 1842 in Difficult, Smith Co. Tenn. He enlisted at Nashville 20 May 1861, enlisted by J. G. Pickett for 12 months. He was dogged by bad health and suffered from rheumatism. on 10 July he is absent sick. In Dec 1861 he is sick at Winchester, Va. His situation worsened and he was given a Surgeons Certificate of Disability and discharged 20 July 1862. The only two engagements he would have been involved in would have been Cheat Mountain Campaign in July of 1861 and Seven Pines 31 May 1862. He has 10 cards and 2 documents in his archival file. He married Melvina Frances Kemp. He died 6 Feb 1919 and is buried in the Yeaman Family Cemetery at Difficult, Smith Co. Tenn. He is the father-in-law of my distant cousin.

Joseph was my great-great grandfather on my mother's side . He was wounded at the Battle of Seven Pines on May 31,1862 and taken prisoner. He succumbed to his wounds on Sept.1,1862,at either Fort Monroe, Va or Ft. Delaware.

Andrew Jackson Coe enlisted in 7th Inf Co. D on May 20,1861 in Nashville, TN and was killed June 27,1862 in Battle of Mechanicsville, VA He was 22 yrs old.

John was a conscript in the Confederate Army. He reported for duty at Bristol, TN April 4,1864. He was captured on the South Anna River,near Hanover Junction, Virginia May 22,1864. John Became a POW at the beginning of the Overland Campaign that would eventually bring about Lee's surrender and the end of the war. Took the Oath of Allegiance and was released May 17, 1865 at Elmira, NY. Record states place of residence ' east Tennessee ' Florid complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, 6 ft tall. Buried in Pilot Knob Cemetery, Greene County, TN

History of the 7th Tennessee Regiment of Infantry The War against Northern Aggression began in April of 1861. Three months later, in Trousdale, Tennessee, the 7th Tennessee Regiment of Infantry was mustered into service. Company D took the nickname, 'The Harris Rifles', in honor of Tennessee Governor, Isham Harris. By July 15, 1861, the men of the 7th found themselves as part of the Army of Northern Virginia (ANV) under Brigadier General Samuel R. Anderson. The 7th, along with the 14th Tennessee, and later the 1st Tennessee, made up what was referred to as the 'Tennessee Brigade.' The order of battle would change over the next four years as the 7th found itself under the command of James Archer (Archer's Brigade), A.P. Hill, James Longstreet, and ANV overall Commander, Robert E. Lee. The 7th saw action in most major ANV engagements, including Seven Pines, Mechanicsville, 2nd Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsvitle, Gettysburg (as part of Picketts charge), Spotsylvania Courthouse, and Appomattox. At Appomattox, the proud 7th Tennessee, once 1,000 strong, furled their battle flag for the last time with 47 men...of which only 5 were from 'The Harris Rifles.' Captain Miller, a native of Gallatin, Tennessee, volunteered as soon as Tennessee left the Union and he fought in Virginia and Maryland until Appamattox. He was in most of the major battles in that theater of the war. His Brigade (Tennessee or 'Archer's' Brigade) initiated the Battle of Gettysburg when it engaged Union troops, including the famous Iron Brigade. He was wounded in Pickett's charge. He was my great grandfather.

John R. Lanier jined the 7th Infantry 20 May 1861 and was surrendered at Appomattox Court House, VA on April 9, 1865. He would not take the oath of allegiance to the United States Government and died a rebel on 24 June, 1916. He is my great-great grandfather.

Wounded at Seven Pines furloughed home; captured while at home at Statesville, Tennessee. Sent to Kentucky as a Confederate Spy. Stayed for a time at Bowling Green, Kentucky. Returned home at the end of the war to Tennessee.

Confederaet Service Record has Hugh R. Gwyn listed in G Company, 7th Tennessee Infantry from 21 May 1861 to 20 Aug 1862 when his one year enlistment was up.

Confederate Service Records show William W. Hackney serving as a private in G Company 7th Tennessee Infantry from 21 Jun 1861 to 20 Aug 1862.

The three eldest sons of Benjamin Harrison and Sarah Lannom of Wilson County, William Henry, John T and Thomas J, enlisted on the same day in the 'Hurricane Rifles'.
