John was born in May 1845 in Dyer County, Tennessee. He has two cards in his archival file. He is 15 in 1860. He enlists in Dyer County on 20 May 1861. Co A is known as [The Newbern Blues]. Assignments: B R Johnsons, P. Smith, Vaughn's Brigades, Gen. Gideon J Pillows Division, Brig. Gen Bushrod R Johnson's Brigade, Gen. Thomas C Hindman's Division. Longstreet's Corps. Described as 6 foot tall with dark complexion with brown hair and brown eyes. He died 7 April 1914 in Cleburn, Jackson Co. Texas. He drew a pension # 23551 and after his death his widow filed and also received a pension.

Enlisted 17 July 1861 in Union City by Col. Campbell for one year. Switched to Co. B for service 1863, appears on CSA Hospital register in Charlotte, NC released May 18, 1865. My husband's 2 great grandfather.

Enlisted 12-07-1861 at Newbern, TN. Pension records show service in both Co. D and Co. C, 12th TN Infantry. Records also show service in the 47th TN Infantry. Captured on 11-26-1863 during the Battle of Missionary Ridge. Held prisoner at Rock Island, IL until being sent to Louisville, KY for exchange.

John Hill was wounded during the Battle of Shiloh. He survived the Civil War and returned to his home in Eaton, TN (Gibson Co.) He died in Dec. 1879 and was buried in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Eaton. His marker was destroyed by vandals and his grave site is unknown. He was a merchant before and after the war. He had several brothers and sisters and their names are as follows: Wyatt, Stephen P., Moses G., William H., Doctor F., Clabourn, Ava, Elinor-'hus. Thomas T. Arnold), Rhoda-'hus. John L. Fowler'. John Hill was born Feb. 27, 1822 in Marshall Co. TN. His first wife was Susan T. Arnold. His second wife was Emma (Emily) Keneday. I would like to hear from anyone with knowledge of any of the people listed above.

Was mustered in Sept 1863 and mustered out April 22, 1865 in Chattanooga. Before he was in the 12th TN infantry, he was in the 19th VA infantry.

GENERAL TYREE HARRIS BELL, CSA BORN: 1815 in Covington, KY. DIED: 1902 in New Orleans, LA. Buried:Fresno County, Calif. CAMPAIGNS: Belmont, Shiloh, Richmond, Perryville, Stone's River,Brice's Cross Road, and Selma. HIGHEST RANK ACHIEVED: Brigadier General. BIOGRAPHY: Tyree Harris Bell was born on September 5, 1815, in Covington, Kentucky. He grew up on his family's Tennessee plantation, and later began a plantation of his own. He was an ardent Confederate supporter, and recruited a company for the 12th Tennessee Infantry early in 1861. Elected captain of the company, he soon advanced to become lieutenant colonel of the 12th Tennessee. Bell led troops at the Battles of Belmont (Missouri) and Shiloh, then took part in the Battle of Richmond (Kentucky). Transferred to cavalry command, he participated in the Battles of Perryville and Stone's River. Maj. Gen. Nathan B. Forrest recruited Bell when the general was organizing an independent command in West Tennessee and northern Mississippi in 1863. Bell served with Forrest until the end of the war. Initially, Bell served as a recruiting and conscript officer. He was eventually given command of a brigade, although he was not commissioned a brigadier general until February 28, 1865. He received the commission as a result of his service in the Battle of Brice's Cross Roads, his work with various Tennessee campaigns and in his leadership and combat in Mississippi. After being defeated around Selma, Alabama; Maj. Gen. Forest's troops and officers, including Bell, were surrendered. After the Civil War, Bell moved to Fresno, California, and became a farmer. While traveling through New Orleans, he died, on September 1, 1902.
