Joel was my Great-Great Grandfather and lived at Fayetteville, Tennessee. He was with the 44th from the time of its organization at Camp Trousdale through the Battles of Shiloh and Chickamauga.

William was born 10 July 1829 in Athens, Limestone County, Alabama. He has 5 cards in his archival file under the 44th. He enlisted at Camp Trusdale and was appointed rank of Captain on 7 Dec 1861.
After being decimated in battle it was consolidated in April 1862 with the 55th Tenn [ McKoin's] which had also suffered serious casualties. It was then known as the 44th Consolidated. In Nov of 1863 the 44th was consolidated with the 25th Tenn. Infantry Battalion.
After consolidation the Officers were: Colonels John H Kelly, John S. Fulton, Lt. Colonel, John L. McEwen Jr. and Majors John S Fulton, Henry C Ewin, Gipson M. Crawford.
Assignments: Wood's Brigade, Hardee's Division, Central Army of Kentucky, Last assignment of 18 was Archer's and Johnson's Consolidated Brigades [McCombs], Heath's Division, 3rd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia [Jan - April 1865].
William died 10 Aug 1888 in Lamar County, Texas. We are related by a distant marriage.

John D. was captured at Island #10 and traded at a prisoner swap at Aiken Landing. He was transported to Vicksburg, MS where the 44th was disbanded and the 54th Alabama was formed. He became a 1st. Lieutenant, Co.A, 54th Alabama Volunteer Infantry under the command of General William M. Loring.

William was born in Goochland County, Virginia in 1818. He married three times, the first in 1844 in Va. to a Mary Key. He and his wife and 4 children migrated west and 1860 was in Smith County Tenn. William enlisted for 12 months 23 Dec 1861 as 1st Sgt in McKoin's 55th Regiment Tenn. Vols. enlisted by Col Mitchell at Camp Trousdale. At the battle of Shiloh, the 55th and 44th were shot all to hell, the survivors of the two regiments were consolidated and became known as the 44th Tennessee Consolidated Infantry.
William had been a 1Sgt in the 55th but after consolidation he was a Pvt. He was about 43 years old and suffering from "Febris Remittens Billous: A recurring fever with infectious properties. 10 April 1862 he is sent to the hospital by the regimental surgeon. He has two cards in the archives of the 55th and 7 cards in the archival file of the 44th. He sees action in the Atlanta Campaign until Dalton Georgia where he is a patient in the Regimental Hospital suffering from the aforementioned condition. He has not been paid from time of enlistment and on 6 Sept 1862 he is paid $126.40 cents. The documentation does not state the circumstances of his departure, but William goes home, and he is dropped from the regimental roll-on 28 Jan 1863.
His first wife died, and he remarried in 1854 a Jane F Robinson who died in 1887 and in 1888 he remarried a much young woman who was born in 1865 and was 47 years younger. She gave him 4 children. He fathered the last of his 21 children in his mid 80's. That child being Richmond Hobson Farley b. 23 Aug 1901. William died 17 Dec 1904 and is buried in the Farley family cemetery, near Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee. He is related to me thru the last marriage of Cora Cardwell who died in 1946.

My Great Grandfather, Green Moore, enlisted December 30,1861 in Nashville, TN with the 44th (Consolidated) TN Infantry, Co. I. He was wounded at Murfreesboro on December 21, 1862, continued in the service; was captured April 2, 1865 at Hatcher's Run; Prisoner of War at Point Lookout, MD. He took the Oath of Allegiance June 29, 1865 & released. He was born in 1837 to George W. & Sally Moore; lived most of his life in Russell Co. Kentucky. He went on to become a medical doctor. His practice was located in the McKinney, KY area until his death in 1904.
